Title: Howdy, just joined today
Post by: Tripwire on November 17, 2010, 07:50:27 PM
I've lived in Montana for almost 40 years, recently I pretty much moved my "stuff" to the family homestead ( so to speak) in East Texas, where I spend the winter months helping out. But for right now my residency is in Montana still.. mostly because , well habit I guess.. and I like to hunt ( poor reasons I guess) I've been looking at and thinking Wyo for several years..

After reading some of the posts and the thoughts behind them as best I can figure , I would be a good fit, But while I'm one who has screamed for years about getting the Gov off our backs I must now admit that my income is from SSI and DAV ( USMC) , both Government handouts, oh sure I paid for both in one way or the other but I feel kinda hypocritical calling down the Gov while cashing my checks every month.. but I'm sure as hell gonna do so as long as they come in the mail.

So where does that leave somebody like me? sure I can stop taking the money, but what does one do at 68 years old ? go to W-M and be a people greeter?..

I have all my freedoms simply because I live my life as I wish, it's kinda like the 10 commandments , you can live a good happy life full of friends and family and never break more then one or two... and never go to church.. that's how I feel about my freedoms.. the Gov can take my money or just not send it to me, I will survive  , I'll find a way.. do I want to? hell no.. I like my life..

my issues with Gov is when they try to abolish my rights to appease somebody I don't even know.. such as the 2A.. I own a lot of guns.. none of them have ever sneaked out at night and stole a car, held up a 711 or shot up a "hood"... so... they leave me the hell alone and I'll leave them alone.. if Sarah Brady don't like guns then don't go to a range, don't hang out in bad parts of town... don't like a movie with nudity? don't watch it.. that's what I mean about my freedoms..

I figure one day my checks won't come in , when that happens nobody Else's will either so we will all be in the same boat.. some will have a nicer boat but that's fine.. I mostly just want to be left alone , not in the sense of having no friends etc..

I just don't want to have some Fed Timber Nazi ( USFS) jumping me because the tire on my truck went off the road a bit.. no driving off roads is fine I guess, but it should be the state not the Fed Gov , As I understand it the lands within a state belong to the state except National parks..

I don't want to get stopped for a broken tail light and have some junior gestapo type make his first question "Do you have any firearms in your vehicle"...  when I say yes I don't want to be asked to submit to a search of my person and my vehicle , then be relieved of my legal weapon... this is wrong.. tell me to fix my tail light or give me a ticket.. and leave me alone..

I've been a LEO and never asked anybody that question.. nor did I ever have cause to. Our local Law Enforcement agency's have been turned into something I don't understand ( thru the advent of "Gov" money) when I went to work I believed I was the sheep dog keeping the varmints away from my flock.. I also know for a fact that most young people coming out of the current  LEO Academy's have an "US against Them" attitude... Us meaning anybody who is not a cop... I remember when all the LEO cars had "To protect and serve" in big letters on the side... where is it today?

Well for a first post this was pretty heavy, I don't care what anybody does in their home as long as it don't harm a child... smoking pot in front of your kids is harmful to them... I don't care if your Gay, just leave me out of it... I hope you home school, if not that's ok too.. your choice. If you drive drunk I'll help drag you to jail... drink at home! that's what I do when I want a drink.

Hell maybe I won't be a good fit.... or maybe I will.. but I'm all for the idea of the free state!... I can live 7 or 8 months any place I want to.. but I will winter with the Family...

I'll spend some time in Wyo this summer.( I know I 90 like the back of my hand). If the get together is in June I will be in Idaho the second week shooting the MGM Iron Man 3 gun.. other wise I'll try to be there..

Hope I didn't put anybody off.. maybe another time I can explain me better.. after I grow up and figger out what I wanna be...

I've never gotten used to someone being a "LEO".
.
I grew up when they were "Peace Officers".

I got no issue with a Peace Officer stopping a feller whose had a beer or two too many. Taking his keys and driving him home. that's how things were done once upon a time in America. Many was the time my Old Man came home in the back seat of a Deputy Sheriff's car.

Having said that... There's something terribly amiss when a feller can't drive the back forty after a hard days work... a cold beer between his knees without worrying about being arrested for something called "open container".

Somewhere along the line... we forgot about personal responsibility.

Welcome to 2010 Hank.. I agree but then I'm old and lazy, it's easier to type LEO then "Peace Officer"... And ..uh.. I said "DRUNK" driving.. I've taken the keys and Lic from many a person and went back later to wake them up so they could get home, also I've driven a lot home.. it's fun to knock on the door at 0245 and when the little lady answers the door you smile and say "Good evening Mrs ..........., here's your DH, this one is on me, next time it's on him...lol the ass kicking starts seconds after the door slams..

But, I've peeled body's off the road because of drunk drivers, and had to knock on the door to tell a family who ain't won't be there for breakfast... I've had to get 6 kids out of class at school to tell them mommy won't be home tonight due to... you got it..

I guess that there is a world of difference in driving along with"A" cold beer and driving along with a 6 pack in the gut..until a couple of years ago Montana didn't have any law against having an open container.. now it does..

So there are freedoms and there are abuses of freedoms... I guess each person has to decide which is what... I know the difference..

Thanks TG, I never worry about egg shells..they make wonderful sounds when you crush em!...as the saying goes if ya ain't shooting ya best be reloading!.

My winter home is near Tyler.. that sounds kinda snobby, my winter home is a small prefabbed cabin just big enough for me and Molly the dog.. but we don't need more then that..

Have yawl been to Wyo to look around?..

Can you back up your claim that smoking pot in front of kids is harmful to them?

Can you back up your claim that smoking pot in front of kids is harmful to them?

Health wise? no.. But whether or not you care what the public thinks the existing laws are such that the courts can and do and will remove kids from what "THEY" ( not me) see as a harmful environment, If you think having ones kids tossed into the States hands is not harmful then I guess we will never agree on "Harmful"...

But until the laws are changed or the public opinion changes then you risk that . I don't think owning an "unregistered Machine Gun is harmful to anybody , but the Laws of the land as they exist at this time say otherwise..

I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers but there it is.. there is always some harm involving dope... dodge the issue, argue all you want but it is a fact.. all dope? no .. I think Pot should be legal just as booze is.. do I think Crack or Meth should be?... NO... the point of freedom is freedom of thought, I think those things are bad maybe others don't... no big deal.. that's just me stating my" free" opinion on a subject..

If I lived in a state where it came up for a vote, I'd vote for pot and against Crack and Meth.. if they became legal so be it.. I still won't use either.. others can if they wish... Freedom!! works both ways..

Joe schmo wants to smoke pot.. I wanna own a machine gun with no paper hassles.. lets all vote on it...

Sad to say but until things change there are way too many things that are deemed harmful or against some law and we have to live with it or around it..
I personally believe in asking for forgiveness rather then permission.. by most rules of decency and the law that makes me an Outlaw.. like this is new!!

Welcome, tripwire! I do hope you'll come to the 2011 Jam here in NE Wyoming. Probably June 9 - 12. http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?topic=10091.0

I suspect we'll have a lot of good things to discuss around the campfire. But if you can't come then, there are always plenty of us to talk to here. Just come when you get the chance. :)

Thank you ML , I'm always up for a good campfire chat, the Jam hit right on the same weekend I'll be in Idaho..unless me and my new knee are still not getting along.. hard to move well and kneel down on.. so if I can't shoot I may be there..

But I'd really like to come, never been in that part of Wyo.. was in about the same area in ND a long time ago.. crossed the border at botino or some such... that pot hole prairie  country was kinda pretty...

We do plenty of shooting around here too, so if your knee won't cooperate with that class you won't be out a whole lot by coming here instead. Looking forward to meeting you. :)

That's a deal.... the Iron man isn't a shooting class so to speak.. altho I get several lessons every time I go.. it's the hardest, baddest , toughest match one can shoot.. picture one stage of fire that uses your rifle , shotgun and hand gun , with maybe 100 to 150 rounds of fire.. IF you don't miss.. then picture having all your loaded mags on your body.. shot shells on a belt or in a dump bag.. then when the timer beeps you start running ( hobbling in my case) shooting on the run.. some of the courses of fire have a 10 minute time limit.. most people take almost all of it.. some time out before they are done ( ME ME ME !!)...

Now.. do that 11 times thru 2 1/2 days...first light to last... it's rough.. and for me it's even rougher... coz I'm an old fart and gimpy.. I'm adding a you tube video of the IM, it shows of course the top shooters.. I'm at the end of the line!! lol... I add this any time I can because Mike Gibson , the Owner of MGM Targets and founder of the Iron Man match  and his family are true Patriots and just super people.. I hope it's OK to post it... and it's a first come first serve match.. if ya wanna shoot in it then just sign up and show up.. A buddy and I went 2 years in a row and each year since more and more of our shooting buddy's from MT shooters showed up, now there is almost 2 squads of MT folks there... any questions please ask and I'll help all I can.. I've made it thru 4 years in a row then missed the last 2 because of knee problems and  new knee.... this year I'm going if i have to crawl!....

One last plug... the Zip line... is the easiest thing there in the match, the rest is a real ass kicker.. Yawl Come!!

Watch it and enjoy!!

Hell ML it's out of my league too...lol..but I enjoy it...there is one stage where you shoot your 3 guns plus 2 sub MG's ( they furnish the guns and the ammo).. it's a hoot!!

TG , it is fun... come try it lol..  :D

Darkside, that shoot is another ass kicker!! I've never gone to it , but a lot of my shooting buddy's have and usually go every year.. I would if I can get down in weight and up in cardio..  seems to me the main match you have to cover 5 miles cross country hauling all your gear and stop in several places to shoot then move on..they shoot in teams of 2 and I think if you get passed up by another team your done.. thus..being able to move !!..

It's not a match for old folks for sure.. I think most of the shooters are Military and Swat types.. but not all..

One stage they had and maybe still do involved five hundred (500) targets , steel that had to be knocked down by the pistol shooter.. think about that one!!!.. how many mags is that? and will your finger wear out?... ;D

Yep yawl have a really great shoot there in Wyo.. it's a damn hard one too..

Before you start popping-off about the "old folks"... take the time to read about George Farr at Camp Perry.

Ya know Hank.. you seem to have an attitude problem.. So...lets get right to it ok.. first I wasn't popping off.. I was stating a fact.. George Farr wasn't running 5 miles up and down hills with about 100 pounds of ammo and guns , water and power food and shooting all the way... was he a wonderful rifleman yes he was.. and in my day I've been a hell of a rifleman..and to a point I still am..

I'm 68 years old so I figure I can say the "OLD" word all I want , if that bothers you then don't read anything I post.. And no I can't do the ITRC.. anymore , and probably not for a long time...

BUT since my first post you've had a thorn in your paw so get over it and you might try getting off your butt and go shoot the ITRC.. If your gonna talk the talk then go walk the walk....

Now having said that... either try to be civil or stay out of my posts...ok? One thing I've noticed in the few days I've been in here is that there are a few ( thank GOD) very few ( and you seem to be one )who for some reason want to toss out some kind of challenge at most new members of this forum...  what ever the problem with you few, lose it... your not being good for the freedom movement.. and all your going to do is piss off people you don't even know... not a good thing..

To the Mods, if you feel I'm out of line please say so.. and I'll move on... it's not part of my makeup to take crap off of anybody..

Some people, myself included, like to see what someone else's idea of liberty or freedom is. Without asking questions, is it possible to find that out? I look at it that a lot of people have differing definitions of freedom but as long as they don't want to try and take my liberties away (by themselves or by voting someone else to) I'm ok with just about whatever.

Don't worry, we're all grumpy around here. :)

I sure do like your philosophy tripwire, and your curmudgeonly attitude too. Some have said the same about me. I got you by a few years but I still do a fair amount of shooting yet, used to shoot the Nat. Match course when a little younger. Even shot a 1000 yd. match not to long ago, did pretty good too. Did you say something about the USMC in your first post?? Been there done that.
I'm still buying rifles, picked one up yest. at an auction here in Newcastle, a real fine Venezuelan M98 Mauser in 7X57, Manufactured By Farique Nationale, It has a beautiful Venezuelan crest on it, smooth as silk. C'mon down and we can go to the range.

I'll be going to Minneapolis here pretty soon to have some stents put in my legs so my legs don't cramp up due to loss of blood flow in the lower extremities. I guess after so many yrs. you have to get new parts like an old car but not at NAPA. Can only speak for myself, but your a fit here as far as I'm concerned.

Stratispho

You realize that what my POV of Freedom is , has nothing to do with yours or anybody else's.. and nothing I can say or write can effect how you view Freedom from your POV... Freedom isn't something you can buckle on with your gun in the morning ( yes it may help keep you free ), Freedom resides inside of you , in your heart or mind wherever it is that you hold those things that are your ideas of Freedom.." your " truths " if you will... A friend of mine, long dead used to say , If it's true say it... If it's right , Do it.. let the chips fall as they may...  ( I think he went further in school then I did , he talked funny  ;D ) but I fully understood what he meant... it's the hardest thing in the world to live by... I try but fail , often..

Anybody remember that line the Duke said in the Shootest ? about " I won't be laid hands on , I won't be talked down to , and I can't remember the rest... except he ended it with, I don't do those things to others and won't allow it to be done to me...or some such... Now think about that a moment....sure it's just a line from a movie but isn't that a great way to live, if you can?....

I have my own ideas of what makes me free, you have yours , I will vote for what I feel is right, as will you , what I think should not matter to you. can't you see that  ? how you vote won't interfere or hamper how I feel , we will both do what we feel is right by the rules we live by...

The way your post reads is like your worried about how I think...why? I'm one man, what can I do to change your life?.. and if enough people who are Liberals move to Wyo to offset your ideas , what can you do about it?.. nothing... so stop worrying about about trying to be free and just go live free...  your where you want to be I assume.. so the time spent dragooning newcomers on how they believe is time wasted on your part...

I doubt any of this will make sense to you or anybody else who feels as you do..  But I'll try.. you see I'm not talking about
" trying " to be free.. I "AM" free, because I refuse to allow anybody to interfere with my freedom... I go where I want , eat what I want and drink what I want , I could go to church if I want to or not go.. if somebody places a roadblock in front of my personal freedom I'll just go around it , over it  and if it comes to it I'll go thru it... Only if I stop and sit there have I allowed somebody to control my freedom...

Now as to my making Wyo my home of residence  I would only do so to advance the cause of freedom.. I know it's a lost battle in Montana , the Liberals discovered the place , well Eastern MT is still pretty uninfected and likely to remain that way.. so in effect my vote is wasted in MT.. BUT, I can make my vote worth something good by moving it to WYO.. will I live there year round? no.. because I'm free to come and go as I wish.. having a place there to be through most of the year sounds good.. I can't stand TX after April first.. hell it's Nov and people here are wearing coats and I'm sweating.. so from April thru Oct I can be where I want to be.. if my vote counts for freedom in Wyo then I'm up for that...

The PTB have made us a house divided against its self , why do we need two parties? that's like a Demo Sheriff saying he will only arrest the Republicrats.. the fewer laws the better off we all will be.. but those few that we should have apply to each person regardless of how they vote.. so.. why not have a man stand up and say I'm Joe whomever and I think I'd make a good Sheriff because ...add your own ideas.... then you listen to the rest... and vote for the one that you think will do the best job... no unions paying for the guy they want.. same for the DC critters.. no party, do the job we want you to do or get fired.. never happen !!

So.. maybe we will become a house divided for real.. I can't live under the ideas of the Socialist Liberals and they won't live under my ideas of freedom.. so .. we get a divorce!... I'm divorced from The Peoples republik of Kalifornacation  and most of the eastern seaboard and the western coast.. and refuse to pay Alimony to them.. they are on their on..

I'm sorry, I get going and can't shut up.. I stop now!!.. forgive me all....

Howdy Jubal ! and thank you  I do have days when i have to make sure i don't bite myself and die... Damn!! that's a nice rifle!! I got a nice used Yugo Mauser 8mm last summer and I have to say it's a hell of a rifle!! i never owned one and always thought the straight bolts were ugly but I sure changed my mind!! this thing flat will shoot.. I'd love to try it at a 1000 yds with the iron sights.. I have no doubt it can do the job.. I got some 8mm ammo from I think it was Classic Arms... maybe Yugo ammo..and was surprised at how well it shoots...

And thank you for the invite I will let ya know when I'll be there again.. I go thru Wyo several times a year it seems.. got nailed in Casper..80 in a 60...lol.. the HP was funny , he walked up and  said "I'll bet you have no idea of the speed Limit here, and I just busted out laughing and said hell no but I'll bet your gonna tell me!!  he cut it down to 70 and it was still 92 bucks! but ya know the laugh and his attitude made it less painful.. I've driven thru there for over 45 years and never noticed the interstate speed drops off to 60... oh well.. live and learn..

Anyway, I'd love to shoot with you.. and will make a point of bringing the old 8mm along next trip... what part are you located in.. I only know the main highways..

I had a big long response typed up and my doc program crashed. I'm sure I could go recover it but it's not worth it. Tripwire, welcome to the forum. My posts weren't meant to criticize in any way, more as a feeler to see what type of person you were. I look forward to seeing more of your replies around here and will buy you a beverage of your choice should we ever meet.

-Take care.

Not a problem and I'd be happy to return the favor any time..I do plan to spend time next summer really looking Wyo over, and I'm sure we are more alike then different in our ideas of the whole issue.

Good things

After Hardware Hank mentioned George Farr in an above post I went back to relearn some history, it's been a long time since I had even heard his name, and I was surprised at the depth of this article...

I believe it's worth your time if your a shooter, to read Mr. Farr's story...  and thanks to Hardware Hank for bringing it up...!
