I don't know exactly how we rank, but looking at this map certainly leads one to believe we might be dead last in Food Stamp participation:

Mississippi is the worse at 21% and Wyoming is the best at 6% of population. Under 2000 people in the state.

Thats right bobcat. I was just wondering that the other day how Wyoming ranked. I was standing in line at the grocery store (in south carolina) and observed how many people were swiping that particular card. Great sense of pride came to me when I handed cash over to the girl behind the register for the stuff that was in my basket.

Actually 33,000+ are on food stamps in Wyoming.  But still the best of all states both in absolute numbers and as a percentage of the population.

Good catch on the math Don.  550,000 x .06 = 33,000

If you open the link, and click on a state, it shows the percentage of people on food stamps, and the number of people receiving them.

I must just have rotten luck because I am behind probably all 2000 of them at one point or the other when I go grocery shopping ??? ----then I get asked if my stuff is WIC  because of the baby.  I always tell the checker "No, this will be paid for in cash by my working husband."  Usually get some interesting looks.
