As most of you, im sure, have found a recent article in the Sundance Times depicting the FSW group and their ideals from quotes that were supposedly pulled from this website and other sources. As a former resident of Crook County and Sundance that still recieves their weekly paper, I was wondering how you as a group feel about this article? On a sidenote, I did see a few letters to the editor for the following week condemning the article, but it was posted by your founder that if any questions needed answering that the person should feel free to contact the FSW members. So here I am! :)
Why do you as a group feel the need to place chosen members of your group into the local government?
Why do most of you feel the need to pack a gun with you at all times and have it on your hip even during group jamborees? (I checked out your gallery pics :) )
EDIT: BTW I did see MarthaK's response to a similar question asked in the paper, and thats understandable....to some point but some clarification would be appreciated from others.
Do you feel that the community will embrace this group even though they pack pistols or guns with them all the time? Im not saying anything of your character but out of pure common sense i would have a hard time trusting a stranger that walked into a restaurant or any local place carrying a firearm.
If I was interested if a certain person was a member of your group, would you reveal information about them or is this all hush hush?
Thanks in advance for answering any of my questions and please dont feel that im trying to interogate or trying to deface your group. Im just curious about what some of my future neighbors beliefs are. And to answer another question that might pop into your head, no i do not work for any media group.

Jackpot,
It appears that you have not looked around the forum and read any of the comments by our members. I think reading the existing posts will clarify all your questions. There's a lot of information here and it's catagorized pretty well. Take a look.
Seems that your main concern is guns. That's typical of most people who have not been educated or trained or experienced in the proper use of firearms. Fifty years ago that would not be the case, but sadly today most of the greater population have had no direct experience with guns or the people who are trained and care to defend themselves should that situation arise.
I have carried a gun daily for a bit over three years and have never had to take it out of its holster or even considered such. It only comes out when I return home. And no, I don't even start shooting people if they cut me off in traffic or give me the wrong change at the check out line!
The fact is that many of the responsible gun owners in this country are better trained than your average police officer. I'll say that again. Many responsible gun owners are better trained than the average police officer. I am. The average officer spends most of his daily routine as well as his training with laws, making traffic stops, investigating burglaries, filling out paperwork, and collecting evidence. Very little has to do with gun handling.
Citizens such as myself are concerned with one thing: self defense. We are not out to stop a robbery in progress or arrest someone. Only if our life, or that of our loved ones, is threatened with immediate great physical harm or death would any of us ever consider intervening.
Your fear of a "gun toting" stranger is unfounded. Gang bangers and criminals do not open carry their guns for all to see.
And lastly, I don't care whether you may or may not like to see me with the tool to defend my life hanging by my belt. It's my right to do so. Just like it's the right of black people to sit anywhere on a bus or for the gay people to associate as they wish. Same with anyone else who choose to exercise their natural right to association, free speech, or self defense.
We here in the FSW respect ALL the rights that people have. Those protected by the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, as well as the unenumerated rights which we possess by virtue of our birth.
So the next time you see someone proudly displaying a weapon, taking charge of his (or her) own destiny and safety, being responsible enough to train and be proficient with his (or her) chosen weapon, do not be afraid, but rather be assured that you are in good company.

Why do you as a group feel the need to place chosen members of your group into the local government?
Wrong question. The first question is whether we feel that way in the first place. And the answer is "no". Of course, I can only speak for myself, but I don't have much interest in politics other than trying to keep scoundrels from making things any worse.
You may be thinking of the Free State Project, which did (and probably still does) advocate "taking over" local governments. These folks chose New Hampshire as their new home, so we don't need to worry much about them.
Why do most of you feel the need to pack a gun with you at all times and have it on your hip even during group jamborees?
I don't know about "most", but many seem to feel a responsibility to be prepared to defend themselves and others in public, no matter how unlikely the need may seem. There are quite a few messages on this forum on this topic, and maybe reading those will help explain their motivations. Actually, one fellow actually was threatened at gunpoint in the Newcastle Pamida parking lot, and he did prevent a crime by being armed. So maybe it is not a silly idea after all.
Do you feel that the community will embrace this group even though they pack pistols or guns with them all the time?
I don't think that most people would care much either way. Some might think it a bit eccentric, some might wonder just how uncomfortable it must be. But honestly, how many of our neighbors in Wyoming are afraid of guns? I bet that nine out of every ten households here have guns.
Im not saying anything of your character but out of pure common sense i would have a hard time trusting a stranger that walked into a restaurant or any local place carrying a firearm.
Then I suggest that you avoid Hulett (for example) during hunting season. We have hunters everywhere, and yes they do carry their guns around with them. But SO WHAT?! Many of them even wear camo! It is no big deal.

Please see my blog entry for today: http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswblogs/mamaliberty/?cat=5
If you read all of it, and the links to my website, many of your questions should be answered, at least for my part. I can't speak for Boston or the FSW.
As for any need to carry a gun... I'm sure that the families and victims of the recent Utah mall mass murder might have a slightly different perspective on it now. If a few more of those in that mall HAD been carrying, a lot more people might be alive or uninjured.
Thousands of criminal acts and deaths are prevented each day because the potential victims are prepared to defend themselves and those around them. Thousands of others become helpless victims because they are NOT so prepared.
I am prepared NOT to be a victim.
Just why would you be unhappy to see a 60 year old grandmother prepared to defend herself? Should I be content to stand by idle and watch people murdered, be killed myself, even though I have the ability and training to do something to stop it? Just what would YOU do in such a situation? And yes, it could happen anywhere.
Mr. Laune's assertions are no more valid in my case than would be an accusation that, simply because you drive a car, you are willing to run down pedestrians who annoy you - or that the primary reason you drive a car is to run over people.
The gun is simply a tool. It has no animation or agenda - any more than does a hammer or an automobile. All tools can be used for good or evil. Our right and need to use tools is not canceled because some choose to use them wrongly.
Please feel free to contact me.

Howdy Jackpot ! Welcome here.
I have been a member of FSW for a while now, I am here because I have spent 27 years in Wyoming and want to help others who have a yearning to live free get to Wyoming. My experience in Wyoming is that most of the Wyomingites are very comfortable around firearms so I do not see why this would be an issue. I have come to know many of the folks who are part of this group and I have no doubt that if given a chance to get to know you or any other resident of Wyoming they would become freinds and good neighbors.
I am sure that anyone who wanted to write an article about us , making us look bad ,(as I believe was the intent of the article you are referencing, ) could search our forum and cherry pick many "quotes" that would make us look like nut jobs. I am sure they could do the same with you in your conversations with your freinds ?
As far as placing members of our group in political offices goes. There are many of us who look around us and see that many of the people who serve in these offices today are not looking out for you or me. They do not respect the constitution, they only take office to implement more rules on their fellow citizens. I myself, have no interest in running for any office but there are folks on this board that I would vote for in a heartbeat. I guess I am wondering why someone in our group would not be allowed to run ? Are they not citizens just like you ? Do we not all share in the same american freedoms to be able to run for any office we choose ?
I am probobly one of the few FSWers who do not carry at all times. I am fairly new to the concept and like you, up to a few years ago would have felt suspicious of someone who did. Life is a learning experience and since I joined this group I have learned many things including why the second amendment to our constitution exists. When I have had the training and experience to be able to safely carry a sidearm at all times, I will feel proud to do so, as should you.
Many of us here value our privacy ,therefor your request for information about one of our members will probobly go un answered but if you are looking for someone just ask and if they want they will say hello.
Well got to get going. Join in some other conversations and let us know a little more about yourself. Miles

Thanks for the answers and for clearing up a few things that i had questions on! I also appreciate the open invitation to explore your forums, which ive been trying to do but with work and all it can get a little hectic.
Allow me to set a couple of topics straight. A couple of you might have thought that my questions were biased or meant to question your every right, but let me assure you thats not the case. My questions were just trying to see your point of view on some of your motives and thats all. So please, i did offend you please accept my apology.
On the topic of carrying a gun. I can understand your reasons to defend yourselves because bad things happen every day, and thats your god given right to carry where ever you go......I do believe this. However, if I do see someone carrying a weapon in my smalltown of Sundance, im not going to feel safer, im not going to feel a warm fuzzy about grandma's taking out a burglar and saving the day. Realistically in my own head i can already awknowledge that i would probably a)feel a mistrust for this person to carry a firearm into a local establishment b)wonder what pushed them over the edge to need to carry c)Does this person know where their at?
On a sidenote I grew up on a ranch near Sundance and have participated in shooting sports competively since the age of 12, hunted since i was knee high to a grasshopper, and believe me that i am part of the good ole boy society that believes the 2nd amendmant should never be tampered with.
On the topic of local government. I did not try to sound questioning to whether or not you should be allowed in elections or not, and if i did sound that way, i apologise. What im trying to get at is the fact that a group of peoples wants to move to my home and try to make sure that their people are in a public office. Call me a little defensive of my home town and county if you wish, but if these people are to move here and be elected into office, i wanna know where they stand and what they and their group stands for.
All the refernces for reading were very much appreciated, and i have read them. My purpose was to hear what your members thought and how they reacted to my questions Boston, Im pretty sure most people within the county have heard your views and probably have a strong grasp on where your going with this group, but since its not just you moving here id like to know more of my future neighbors and their beliefs.
Once again thankyou all for the replies and being kind enough to answer my questions, it speaks miles for your group.
Thanks again,
Jackpot

Jackpot,
Glad to hear from you.? I think you all (you all= wyomingites) would probably find most of us good neighbors.? At the risk of putting my opinions in the mouths of others I would say that most people that hang out at FSW are for LESS government and more personal liberty and personal responsibility.? Which means that they prefer to run their own life freely without invading or infringing on others rights.? They/we tend to value self-reliance and floating your own boats as opposed to living off your friends and neighbors by increasing taxes for more government services.? In my case I prefer to "run" from the myriad bureaucrats trying to run my life, and escape from this to freedom in Wyoming.? However I will vote against any propositions that destroy or decrease liberty.
Now at the risk of snooping, 2 years ago this last summer I went to a Ranch Roping out on the Jackpot Ranch.? I took my 2 little boys and my wifey and we had a wonderful time with the folks there.? Consequently I wondered if you might be kin to the folks on the Jackpot?? We hope that when we get to Wyoming that we can get into to Ranch Roping if everything works out.? We will probably settle over around Buffalo.? Don't get me wrong I love Crook County and met some great folks there and found a great little Baptist church that I liked, but I am afraid those Big Horns trump the Devil's Tower for me.
As to holding public office I doubt if I would be the one to do that.? I am just an ole country boy that craves the freedom that is to be found in Wyoming.? Wyomingites really don't have a clue as to how free they are.? Just try to carry a gun in your vehicle without a case in my country County here in Illinois.? We have more gun ban legislation working its way thru the legislature than you can possibly imagine.? And we have what I call the Zoning Police.? You can't build anything on your property without these people snooping around your place to get more fees and permission.? I am talking about things as simple as a little cover to hide your garbage cans.? I live in a rural county.? You give these bureaucrats a little power and it goes to their head and the next thing you know you have a bunch of little Hitlers running around wanting you to bow and scrape at their feet.? You may think it can not happen to you but just try to build something in Gillette.? I will bet 50cents that it is lot tougher there than it use to be.? It can happen and will happen unless it is nipped in the bud early.? Yes you risk "uncontrolled" growth.? Yes it may not always be pretty, but it will be in freedom.? In Illinois of course, the Chicago crazy people (my appologies to some of our Chicago FSWers, but that's how I feel) run the show.? In Wyoming there aren't enough big city crazies in Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie run the rest of the state.? In Illinois if we could get rid of Chicago and the "collar" counties it would change things quite a bit.
Well once again it was good visiting with you, it is none of my business, but I was just kind of wondering if you were kin somehow to the Jackpot ranch folks, man it was beautiful out there!
Regards, Danl ~W~

Hello & Welcome Jackpot, ?:)
? ?Both my fiancee Renee (aka Libertymom here on the Forum) and I are planning on making Wyoming our home (preferrably in Crook County) as soon as is possible. ?We both believe that as honorable individuals we can be good neighbors as new 'Wyomingans' (or Wyomingites, which ever is proper usage). ?We both strongly believe that every peaceable law-abiding individual has an unalienable right and duty to look after the safety of not only themselves but their family thru daily arms bearing (Libertymom is getting my Belgian made FN Browning High Power pistol as a wedding gift for that reason). ?A people's ability to carry/utilize arms and maintain their Liberty is intertwined; when they let that duty slip from their fingers and consign it to 'professionals' it's not too long before the governmental 'servant' goes from being arrogant to committing mass murder. ?To prove this point I recommend watching the movie Innocents Betrayed by J.P.F.O.
http://shop.jpfo.org/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=8 Innocents Betrayed at J.P.F.O. Store
http://www.innocentsbetrayed.com/ Innocents Betrayed main site
? ? You can also download the film (100 MB) from the site for a nominal fee if you want to watch it immediately. If you do this you may want to use download accelerator to help speed up the download.

? ?We both believe that the best gov. is a limited decentralized gov. of the Jeffersonian model. :) ?The first duty of any free person is to be able to 'self-govern' themselves; when that is achieved there is peace and lawful order in abundance.
? ?We are planning to attend this years Jamboree in June. ?We hope that you will be able to attend as we'd look forward to meeting with you and learning/sharing about each other.

Hi Jackpot,
The most to-the-point answer to your questions in general is likely in the FSW FAQ. If you haven't read it, I really encourage you to do so, as it answers at least 95% of the concerns and questions people generally have when finding out about FSW:
http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum//index.php?topic=24.0
Your questions seem to boil down to two primary issues; 1) that of people seeking to get elected to local government and 2) nervousness at the psychotic, trigger happy, mentally- and emotionally-unstable picture the article painted FSW members with.
Despite the claims of the article, the FSW doesn?t seek to ?take over the government? of WY, or Sundance, or any of the Counties. There have been posts on the forum by people who have talked about the idea of running for one office or another, but that?s about as much as I?ve seen of it. From the FAQ:
?The FSW is merely an ad hoc group of people who are a) interested in living free/freer lives, and b) would like to do so in Wyoming as good neighbors with the locals.
?
The FSW will not endorse political efforts, as such has never been the FSW's task. Once FSWers are in Wyoming, the FSW has largely done its job and it is up to individuals to work for freedom as they see fit.
In any case, I doubt anyone has to worry the FSW staging some kind of coup and dictatorship over Sundance (or any of WY!) Anyone who decides to run for a local political office (FSW member or not), still has to be elected, which means they?d have to do the same stumping around for support everyone else does, make the same statements of their positions, the same fund raising efforts, etc?. No one would be "blindsided" in any event.
As to gun ownership? Wearing a gun or keeping one within reach is no different than keeping a piece of rope in your truck. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it, right?
i would probably a)feel a mistrust for this person to carry a firearm into a local establishment b)wonder what pushed them over the edge to need to carry c)Does this person know where their at?
I can appreciate your honesty, but feel compelled to point out a couple of things.
Feeling mistrust at seeing someone armed may be an understandable response due to the rarity of it. However, this rarity is largely due to the attitudes of ?I can rely on the police?, "Only paranoid nutjobs or criminals carry guns", and ?It?ll never happen here?. Your questions of ?what pushed them over the edge to need to carry?? and ?do they know where they are?? seem to reflect these attitudes.
Is it fair to assume that just because someone carries they have been ?pushed over the edge? and are thus unreasonable, or unstable? There are a lot of reasons people carry - previously being victimized and refusing to allow it again, having been in a position to protect oneself or others, a strong sense of personal responsibility or a refusal to be helpless.
Additionally, crime can happen anywhere. Every time a crime takes place in a small town, or a quaint public place (like the mall in UT recently,) or a school, the response is inevitably ?I can?t believe it happened here". Crime can and does happen in all kinds of places, and none of us know where and when the next time will be. This is why some choose to go armed; like the Boy Scout motto, some would rather "Be Prepared" than to watch (or become) victims.
Hope that sheds at least a little light on the subject. If you have any other questions feel free to keep asking!
BTW Danl, the Big Horns trump the Devil's Tower for me and Lynda too! :)

Danl should look into a career in investigative anything. You got me point on, I am from the Jackpot Ranch. This is the last true heaven on earth for me and i need to defend and protect this piece of land anyway that i can. Which has led me here to undoubtfully look into a few of my neighbors. After hearing from alot of you however, Im sure that youll do fine here in Wyoming, and it may be that some of you might be a friend in the future as we do share alot of the same beliefs.
One small favor if and when you do move you and your family to this part of Wyoming is that you leave whatever state your from behind. Dont expect nor try to change Wyoming to better suit your needs or anyone else for that matter. Become part of Wyoming, and its rich heritage and diversity that has been our little secret for a long time now. That may be our biggest fear here in Sundance and that may be the reason for our controversy on the matter is that were in love with what weve got, and I think you'll all agree that theirs no reason to change it a bit.
Danl, did you attend the ranch roping? If ya did, howd you do?
One more question for the lot of ya and ill leave ya alone. Does anyone hear know of the DarkHorse Ranch?
-
Jackpot,
My wifey loved the Jackpot and termed it a little slice of heaven.? As to the ranch roping event we were part of the audience and not participants.? We got some really good video of the event.? We would love to be able to bring ranch roping back to Illinois and the folks there said they would come help us learn if we cover their cost.? We do team sort on occasion.? I think my boys and I would like to do the ranch roping as they get a little older.? I bought a 60 foot rope at King's in Sheridan that they said was recommended by Buck Brannaman.
I think that if anything the new folks will preserve the status quo and not attempt to change a great deal.? Continue keep watch on your slice of heaven over on the Jackpot and its surroundings, that is the only way you'll keep it away from the Bigger/More Government crowd.? Most of us are very independent and self-reliant types.
Some of my pics of Wyoming can be found here (http://www.pikechiro.com/family).?

Welcome Jackpot,
When I read one of the editorials it seemed that although the writer wanted to spread fear of newcomers coming, and fear of change, but he was actually advocating for a change in the zoning laws to the extreme. That is often a ploy used by some in government, to spread unfounded fear. FSW is not a political organization, and we are not moving there to take over the government. We are just a group of people that like Wyoming's independent spirit, and we wish to congregate and live close to people of like mind. Those opinion pieces highly exaggerate and contort our mission.
-
Jackpot,
We too don't want to see Wyoming change into something that it's not! I myself would love to see it frozen as it is today and live out my life in heaven!
Here's a web site listed in the last Sundance Times article:
www.care4wyoming.org (http://www.care4wyoming.org)
They are not affilitated with FSW, nor vice-versa, but their views on this topic are similar. Do you have any cause for concern for keeping your ranch just as it is? Or would you like the county to decide that you must implement "dust control" as they have done here where I live in NV? Would you like them to dictate that your ranch road be paved? That you have to water down your service roads at certain intervals? Maybe that you can only water your garden or lawn on alternate days? What about the sign showing the entrance to your ranch? Is it over four feet high? What if the county people decide that's unsightly? What about all that unsightly ranch equipment that you have lying about? Some passersby might not like looking at it! Maybe a mandated fence is in order to shield it from view? And what about animal cruelty? Wait till the city folk get the legislature to inspect, certify, and license your ranch (at your expense of course) to insure everything is on the up and up! Don't worry, they'll make sure to tell you how many head of cattle you can graze on your own property. And if you thought that perhaps you could get a little bit of income by putting a cell tower over on the corner of your land and leasing it, well think again. The Crook County planners have already publically announced that that is one (just one) of their agenda items.
Can't happen to a ranch near you? Think again. The wheels are in motion and they only turn one way, to LESS freedom. That is what many of us are against. Maybe it's not ranches today. Maybe it's wells, or septic systems, or signs, or cell towers, or simply the majority's view of some private landowner's majestic landscape that they want preserved (to the landower's detriment). You see?

This is one topic youll find that I stand with you over. Zoneing laws are a joke and we (Sundance) have faith that the problem might be taken care of. Two of our recent commisioners were recently replaced during the election with Ranchers, that feel the same way you do about this Zoning crap. I could go on for days about this subject, and its funny you spoke of a road.....my hair stands on end. I wont go into detail on the matter because its enough to fill a couple of pages on this here forum. Cell towers? Hahahha too late Mac. Were already being hussled. 3 years ago we allowed a cell company to install one on our property. They pay every month on top of other things that are part of the deal, but heres the tick. Another company wants to put a tower there, but they dont wanna pay what the other guys payin, in fact they dont wanna pay at all. They even went as far as calling the electric company to start running power up there for their new tower without our consent......That didnt sit too well, fortunately for us the guy goin to install the wiring thought hed better call us first and verify. They havent been back but complaints have been made about un cooperative ranchers, i get the feeling that they havent seen just how uncooperative we can be. Other than that though the first company hasnt slacked off and have been mindful to our ways and have always called for an escort onto our property to check their tower, which is good of them.
Youve sold me, all of you have. I dont believe youll harm the county nor do i feel that youll be a bad thing. Youve just gotta convince everyone else or you may never have the peace you want. Might i suggest a public Q&A in Sundance with some of your members. That might help if the populace could put a face to your group and find out what your goals and views are instead of reading it second hand in the Times.
Danl, not many people would agree a 60foot rope is needed in any circumstance, but once youve seen what can be done with it...you know. Glad you liked the ranch, were pretty proud of it ourselves. Keep an eye on your ranch ropin calender, one might be poppin up in the area this summer.

That's a darn good idea, Jack. And not only for Crook county. We'll have to give that some thought. MamaLiberty

Welcome Jackpot. I'm glad you've taken your valuable time to at least investigate FSW. My comments below represent just Me and Mine. I DO NOT presume to speak for FSW or any other 'members' of the ad hoc group.
Hopefully, you can now see that most of us want to come to Wyoming with the intent of PRESERVING what is there. The freedom you all have is the draw. Me and mine want it to STAY that way. -Gravel roads and all.
I hope you are right. Zoning/planning/code enforcement goofiness is one of the issues we want to get away from. I believe the owner of the property has the right to do with his property what he choses. If Crook County goes off the deep end on this, Me and mine will look elsewhere. I don't want to move in and immediately have the same fight on my hands. Been there. That's a story for face to face discussion...
I'll PM you with a little about us. Its a privacy thing.

Jackpot,
They (the bureauRats)? have gone so far here in Illinois that if you buy any kind of septic tank the dealer is mandated to inform the state of the purchase and the purchaser's contact info and they will come and investigate where it is going to go.? The public health department is very aggressive in pursuing anything they can find to take charge of.
We have a case where the one neighbor had a great spring (water) and the other neighbor needed the water also so they came to aggreement to go together and get a better system than either could afford to buy by themselves.? The owner of the spring has been termed a water supplier by the Public Health Dept.? The owner will have to comply with the same provisions as a commercial supplier of water, the same as a municipal water arrangement.
Once these people have a toe in the door, or in the case of a hog, his snoot under the fence, they know no limits and have no common sense, and ZERO sense of humor!
This is what some of us are trying to escape!? We are refugees from the rulers.? I would venture to say that we haven't even gotten started telling horror stories of the places some of us live in and the bureauRats that run them.? NEVER, NEVER, let them get a started......? It starts out with the most noble of intentions.? Kinda like the Income Tax, it was sold as a soak the rich scheme, but once the law is in place the regulations can be changed much easier.
Now as to the Rope.......? I have on video one throw that has a 'different' name, kind of like Delano or something, that was the prettiest loop I ever saw thrown.? The loop went up in the air and "figure eighted" itself and came down on the calf's rear end, at which point the calf stepped in and was caught.? It was worth a whole bunch of points.? I have watched it several times.? We had somebody request a copy of our video to be sent to them.? It took us a while to get it copied but we sent it a few months later.?

Jackpot, good idea on the local Q&A.
Folks might be surprised that the FSW is much less of
an org than they assumed, and with hardly any goals.
My purpose in forming it was to create a sort of
self-energizing syndrome for Wyoming relocation.
I've seen liberals converge on Colorado, and it was
done without a plan. It was a phenomenon, and
that is what I'd like to see the FSW foment.
So, there may be less to ask me/us about than one expects.
Such is the nature of phenomena...

Jackpot, welcome aboard. Like you, I was born and raised here(I now live in Laramie but am Bighorn bound)and grew up taking all this space and freedom pretty much for granted. What pushed me over the edge to carry was fatherhood 3 years ago. It's a pretty normal adult male response to have all those "PROTECT" instincts emerge when you become a parent. Look at the news on any channel and look at all the incidents of sick-o's assaulting women and kids and ask yourself "What would happen to anyone threatening biathlons family?" I'm a grunt Jackpot. I'm an electrician. I build stuff and fix things. I have to get up and go to work every day and the f@#%$&G gov takes nearly a third of my income every year. I'm in this Free State thing because I'm concerned about all of the above comments from our other members. How would you feel about having neighbors that would join your fight when the (insert any large corporate or govt. entity) comes to condem the Jackpot Ranch to make a golf course? I hope you'll come to the FSW Jam in june. I'll show you my favorite fishing spot near the Guernsey Resivoir. B

Danl did you happen to see any women roping during the event? If ya did the lady with brown hair that was probably showing up most everyone is my sister. The man that owns the Jackpot with a big mustache, and gear that looks like its been overused is my father, hes about 5'7". My sister is about 6'1" and im 6'7" hahahaha milkman? Jking hes not our biological father but even better. He took my mother and us in when we were 4 and 5 years old and gave us the world. Very cool guy and if anyone is in the neighborhood again they should take the opportunity to watch him work a horseback....its a spectacle, and hes probably one of the very last true Cowboys on god's green earth.

Welcome Jackpot.
Your question about the gun thing reminds me of something that happened to a neighbor of mine - Jim Zumbo. He just put his opinion out there and was flabbergasted at the response.
Here's what I think is going on about this (just my opinion). Wyoming is such a gun-crazy state, that people just take them for granted. While gun ownership is probably the highest in the nation, the concealed carry law is kinda crappy and I bet few people carry, concealed or open, as a matter of course. No gang-banger here, etc. So in a weird way, the prevalence of guns and the gun culture here has made Wyomingites rather indifferent about them. So that, when someone is seen carrying openly, they are thought strange.
Now, try to look at things from our point of view. Put yourself in our shoes. We come from states where guns are constantly made out as evil. Gun owners are subjected to all sorts of bad comments, and made to feel shame for owning guns. At least that is the constant drumbeat against us. We don't by any means take the right to bear arms for granted, because we have all fought battles constantly trying to preserve that right. I don't know how many letters to the editor I have written, how many legislators and congresscritters I have begged to leave me alone. Wyomingites never have to do these things, so maybe they don't understand.
You write, "...believe me that i am part of the good ole boy society that believes the 2nd amendmant should never be tampered with." No doubt Jim Zumbo considered himself the same, yet he voiced an opinion that was instantly picked up and quoted on gun prohibitionist sites. It was simple thoughtlessness on his part, probably because he really doesn't know how bad it is out there, outside Wyoming. He didn't realize he was providing ammo for gun banners.
Jackpot, the 2nd Amendment that you and we all respect is a right to bear arms. It does no good to pay lip service to that right while looking askance at those who exercise it. Rights are never protected by people ashamed to exercise them. People who carry openly are doing you a service in protecting the 2nd Amendment. Being ashamed to exercise the right has been tried many times before, and it just doesn't work (e.g. England). Knuckling under to the sensitivities of newspaper editors and hoplophobes just delays the inevitable, confiscation - and helps to ensure it happens. The time to resist is now, when maybe an occasional person is made uncomfortable by seeing a gun - not later when you are thrown in jail for having one. That occasional person will just have to adapt. Yes, people need to adapt to seeing me exercise a right. Adapt or leave. I do not adapt to him by giving up my right.
Our persistence on this issue may appear strange to you and other Wyomingites, but we're just going to do it anyway. Our backs are against the wall, and we can't back down any more.

Deer Paul, (just thought I'd throw that in there),
we are not gun crazy,
nor are we gun lazy,
we don't take them for granted,
I find that quite slanted,
yes, few people carry,
the rest are unwary,
so in a wierd kinda' way.
our culture holds sway,
open carry is strange,
but not on the range,
we don't deafen the ears,
of all of our peers...
...for the sake of our nieghbors,
who share all our labors,
as far as indifference,
check this out for inference,
CLICK, CLICK, BANG, BANG.....,
so much for that gang.....BANGER!
"An armed society ,
is a polite society,"...(usta' know the
author of that quip, wish I still did...)
and now for the shame,
do feel no blame,
was your castle robbed last night!?
the riight to bear arms,
is the right to WEAR arms,
YESS!! It is time to resist!.
or cease and decist!!
I doe know nothin,' but hey what the f.........OOPS!..........I'm only a buck!
btw Paul, if you get some free time, would you mind breaking this into verses for me(us)...oh, and a spelll/grammer check wouldn' hurt notin' either...:)
...yours in humillity, Neal
God bless you all

Paul, Just 2 add a comment about your post. I come from a Vermont, the state with no gun laws. One can ccw or oc with no license. I have seen a huge influx of sheeple from MA, NJ, NY Etc. They are ALL trying to change the laws here and get handguns banned. The Californians have taken over Colorado, and look at the way guns are viewed in Boulder and Denver. The point I am trying to make to Jackpot is it's just a matter of time till the "discover" Wyoming and start with the $500K "McMansions", and start getting elected to the legislature!

Some of you folks are really going out of your way to alienate and even insult a longtime Wyoming resident!
Why!?
The guy feels a little nervous about being around a bunch of armed strangers in his small-hometown...so what.
That doesn't make him the gun-grabbing, bloomberg loving Zumbo that some of us are comparing him to...just an honest guy who acknowledged his feelings about it.
Jackpot, no worries here man...you're entitled to whatever suspicion you have of anyone, armed or not. I would imagine that when you have a chance, over time you'll discover that most of us are the type of folks that you want armed and want to share a neighborhood with. Until we have such chance to demonstrate that adequately, feel free to tense up a little. Anything less and you wouldn't be honoring the little voice inside who you should always listen to.

John Corry,
Don't worry about these fine people here on FSW, it's only a matter of time until the Kalifornians discover the cheap land to exploit. Then they get elected to the legislature, then they do whatever the hell they want. I have read posts from Montana where this is starting to happen there. I am still in Vermont contemplating a move there. I still haven't decided. I didn't realize Wyoming people were so fearful of guns and outsiders. As far as someone commenting about FSW coming to "save WY, I don't know that you can save anyone who doesn't want saving. I can't speak for Wyoming since I have only drove through once, but here in Vermont the natives are too stupid to save themselves. In case some of you don't get it the ultra left have an agenda, just like the ultra right does! I can guarantee it's not to look out for your best interests, it's to get rich off your land and resources.
