Hello Everyone,
My name is Mike. I am 36 years old and believe this country has lost the meaning of liberty. We are told to be afraid of everything and to rely on the government for our safety, but I want to be self reliant.
I ran across this movement a year or so ago, but didn't have any solid ideas on where I wanted to relocate. I am an Idaho native and have lived in the Boise area all my life except for during my military service. The place I called home has been destroyed in the name of progress. Traffic is horrible, people are increasingly less friendly, and the quality of life has deteriorated.
I am currently working at Albertson College of Idaho, and am hoping to get my daughter through college and then get out of this place. She is a senior in high school this coming year, so I may have up to five years before I make the move. My savings may allow me to purchase property in late 2009 to establish some roots.
A friend of mine who I've known over 20 years is in agreement and we will probably buy some land to put a couple of places on. We are in search of a simpler life. The rat race is sucking the life out of us.
So, it's now the five year plan to find someplace to live free.

want2befree, welcome to FSW. Perhaps Daughter would be interested in UW? Lemme know if I can help, I live here. I have skied at Bogus Basin a lot and really enjoy it. B

Welcome! There are excellent education opportunities in Wyoming, so don't let that hold you someplace you'd rather not be. Life is too short... and freedom too precious. :) ML

There is new college opening in Lander Wyoming. It will offer a bachelor in liberal arts. All freshmen are required to take care of a horse for the freshman year. It is a Catholic college--don't know if that would make a difference for you. It is on a ranch up against the mountains.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. My daughters education isn't the main reason for not moving yet. I am waiting on a stock payout from a previous employer. Should be late 2009, so at that time I will actively seek out property and look at job opportunities.
I at least want to secure property at that time, even if it takes a couple more years to make the move. Oregon and Wyoming were the two states I was looking at, but the FSW movement is really what has made the difference in where I want to be.
Really miss the small town feel from my childhood and teen years.

Brandy,
Just looked at Lander online and that looks promising. I don't mind the Catholics if they don't mind this non denominational Christian. ;D
It is definitely beautiful there.
Thanks for the tip.
Mike
