i like what i have read about wyoming and the FSW. my wife and i are moving, but we are concerned about the very cold weather of the state. i posted a similar thread on the wrong form here earlier i think.

You are fine there. Just do some research. All the climate questions have been discussed at length, so you just need to find them.
That said, you need to be prepared for the climate to be DIFFERENT. You will not find anything like Washington in Wyoming. It will probably be colder than you are used to for a few months of the year, and dryer than you are used to most of the time too.
It's a matter of making up your mind to adapt, buy appropriate clothing and gear, and get an attitude that freedom is worth a little inconvenience once in a while. If freedom is most important, you'll work the rest out.
Just do your homework and learn about the different climate types available here. Figure out what your other priorities are, and choose the place that fits them the best. Perfect probably isn't an option for most of us, but I've come darn close here in Newcastle. I'd love to show you around my little corner of heaven. :) MamaLiberty

I have lived close to Casper for about 1 year. There has been cold weather, snowy weather, bitter weather, rainy weather, thunderstorm weather, hot weather................................but a I have say that there has been more days that are beautiful and comfortable than I expected. There were a couple a very bitter days this past winter but heck it was winter and the constant variations in weather has made the Wyoming experience all the more wonderful.

Usually you don't notice the winter cold so much, because most of the time you are inside. :)
One thing I did notice in Wapiti though, the wind was ferocious, coming out of Yellowstone. You heard it howling much of the time. That's probably about worst case though. If you can't stand winter wind, don't live there!
Brandy's right, lots of very nice days. Overall I prefer the weather here to that of western Oregon.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that if Wyo was more temperate and appealing, we would have the same problems you may be trying to leave behind. The good thing about Wyoming's harsher conditions is that it keeps the population and the BS to a minimum. People cannot decide to live in Wyoming. Wyoming decides, Paul.

I wrote a short story when we first moved here and that was the whole point. You can't come to Wyoming and try to make it what you want. Wyoming decides if it wants to keep you.
