Wow!
Front page article! All in all, a very good article. There is only one tiny problem with it. It states that Baron and Stahla (Crook county attorney and sheriff) have never arrested anyone in the FSW. That is a bald faced lie (not by Cory, but by Stahla and Baron). I can personally attest that they have bragged that they deliberately "slammed" someone because they were in the FSW.
Other than that A really positive and informative article!
Thanks Cory! Well done.

Is the article available on line? Please post a link. I'll go look, but might not find it.
If not, could someone please scan it and post it? We all need to see it. Thanks!!!!

You might want to buy one. You are on the front page and the "continued" section (almost a full page!)

Thanks, I did find it. The only thing I'm disappointed about is what he left out. We talked at great length about self responsibility, non-aggression and integrity as the backbone of FSW and our self defense/shooting culture, but he left out most of it. Too bad.

The version we have has two pitctures of MamaLiberty and ManfromNevada on the front page then on page 11 is a picture of Shawn and his M1A and a picture of Boston talking to a crowd. Overall a good article.

Great story I think. Fair. Balanced.

Very nice. I liked this touch:
A pair of California license plates from her former life leans up against the Newcastle cabin. They are riddled with bullet holes.
:D
-
Yeah, she barely made it out of Cali alive. You should have seen the rest of the car! LOL ;D
I remember helping to aerate those plates. >:D Mama, did you ever send a photo of them to the Governor?
Great article in my view, too.
-
No, I never did. I can't imagine that "Ahnold" would be impressed, even if he ever saw it. Or some moron might construe it as some sort of weird "threat" to him...
I wrote off California totally at some point in the last year. I just feel sorry for my family and all the other good people I know there.
They know where I am, and I tell my story frequently. It's better to spend the time and resources recruiting the good folks to seek freedom, and leave the dead to bury their dead...
-
Wish he'd have gotten the forum address complete though. :-\
-
I liked it and thought it was fine. Most likely the rest of the papers here will jump on the bandwagon soon. Brace yourselves. B

I was discouraged by most of the "comments" to that story. Either people don't really read things, or they have their minds made up and don't care what it says. How can anyone decide that we want to change Wyoming to what we came from by that story? How can they decide we are all "paranoid" from that story? People are just so damned frustrating. Yes, even in Wyoming sometimes. sigh
Were these the "letters to the editor" or are they somewhere else? I didn't find any.
-
Well for my part I am thrilled with this article. We are just regular folks looking to join with people in Wyoming who generally consider freedom, personal responsibility, without being acting offensively toward others.
YES!!!!!!!

Overall great. It is amazing though, how many people posting comments to the article still don't understand us and paint us with a broad brush. It is as if they don't believe anything in the article. Skepticism is good, though...I am hoping they can channel some of that toward their politicians.

I've posted some comments at:

There remains a persistent troll there, but I'm dealing with him.

Thanks Boston. I just went through all the comments below the article.
Seems many are OK with us once they understand we are, generally, hard working contributors to the local economies and simply exercising our God given, Constitutionally confirmed rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We are professionals, skilled tradesman and tradeswomen as well as laborers. We are not comprised of welfare recipients, hippies or militia/anarchists nor do we encourage such activity. Could one or a few of those folks be among us? It's possible, but not probable as they will find few, if any, who would agree with such life philosophies.
Who are we? 'Boot strap' type independents, liberty oriented, family based. Precisely what the collectivists dislike and are actively destroying. While most of us are Christian, some are Jewish, Mormon and even Agnostic. Many enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, shooting sports, astronomy, paleontology and other family oriented and scientific pursuits. Whether we agree on everything or not, we all seem to respect each other and get along. We don't make a practice of imposing our beliefs on others, but are open to discuss them and are willing to express and live our convictions. It's really that simple. This from my personal observations over the last couple of years.
Where are we from? All over, with a surprising number from the Mid West and conservative pockets of the Southern East Coast. Some from suburbia, and many from the country. Some in their 60's and some in their 20's and a lot inbetween. And some from other 'conservative' Western states like AZ, UT, NV, ID. And yes, some from liberal bastions like CA and OR. Of the Californians and Oregonians I've met, I can guarantee the native Wyomingites, they did not bring the liberal qualities of CA/OR with them. Quite a cross-sectional cut. We were pleasantly surprised. As for us, we hail from the Mid-West and AZ.
I hope the naysayers that are clearly getting emotional and jumping to conclusions have the capacity and energy to at least read the FSW link about us. Given a little time and thought, they may come around to seeing who we are and not passing condemnatory judgment. If they still disagree, fine, that's their prerogative. Just return the 'favor' in how you view your new neighbors.
The naysayers and friendly Wyomingites alike will find that many of us have experience fighting 'City Hall' and the expansiveness of regulatory bureaucracies. Some of us have influenced significant changes in smaller towns in our 'native' states, while some in the larger metro areas are simply worn down from fighting the collectivist/statist, anti-freedom, anti-family nature that pervades our country. Native Wyomingites should be thankful that most of us have seen collectivism's damage first hand and despise it.
These freedom loving folks want to be someplace where they can live freely and have a POSITIVE impact on their neigborhood, community and state. We are not solely idealists looking for utopia, but practical realists looking for a liberty oriented location to contribute. That means neighbor helping neighbor, liberty over collectivism, saying no to tax hungry government in principal and fewer bureaucratic restrictions.
Aren't these the kind of neighbors we would all want?
The folks that have lived in Wyoming all their lives simply may not be aware of the liberty strangling power bureaucratic regulatory entities will impart on their lives. It is a movement of collectivist incrementalism, much like the proverbial frog that was comfortable in warm water, only to be boiled alive without realizing the danger. Living under the radar and doing nothing is EXACTLY what enables and empowers these type of politicians and bureaucrats. I confess, I did that for years until the government tried a land grab on my private property. It woke our family up. We fought, fought hard in a professional, courteous and calculated manner and won. Since then, we have gotten more involved and helped to stop excessive spending in the county. If the last round of spending had been approved, property and other taxes would have gone even higher and the debt expense would have become a generational curse. As I write this, a big spending push is coming around again. We'll have to devote some PERSONAL time, with no excuses, to beat the push for spending back.
Aren't these the kind of neighbors we all want?
Impose regulation (lose liberty), Raise taxes (lose liberty), Expand government (lose liberty), impose regulation, etc. That is the dastardly cycle of collectivism that grips parts of the East and West coast today. That is precisely what FSW'ers do NOT want to see come to Wyoming. Sorry to say, it's already there, as I have attended a "Concerned Citizens Planning Committee" meeting in Crook County and have seen it for myself. The imported county planner actually stated that it is up to government what you do on your land! That's first hand, as I heard it with my own ears. No locals challenged him on that shocking comment. Very sad. But the good news is, collectivism can be minimized, stopped or even reduced. Citizens choice.
The liberal collectivist types will want the above restrictions and socialist government bureaucracies to flourish, while the independent, libertarian, conservative(as loosely defined today) types will NOT want expanded government and actively work against it. Small government, low taxes and free market principals promote the expansion of private enterprise and a flourishing citizenry.
Boston, if you think the above comments would be worthwhile posted in the Casper article, let me know and I'll make it happen. Otherwise, anyone can read it here and comment, if they so choose. Thanks for your effort over there to get some clarity and understanding amongst the few keyboard naysayers.

I just posted a comment there. I took the liberty of saying what it was that I think Free-Staters want, and so I hope I didn't misrepresent the goals of FSW in any way. The comment is pending approval, so in case it doesn't show up, I've quoted it below, since it also expresses to you all what I'd hope the FSW could be for me.
----
I'm sorry to hear that the moniker "Free State" conjures up images of racists and crazy people holed up in compounds to so many people. Freedom is what this country was founded on, and what everyone across the country still believes is the best thing about this country. Is that so crazy?
Free Staters don't want some crazy notion of freedom that means the "freedom" to terrorize their neighbors or the "freedom" to take over some helpless community for their own purposes. Free staters want the freedom to build their own lives, to enjoy their own homes, and to do for themselves rather than insisting that the community do for them with ever increasing taxes.
And as to the guns, a well-known writer once said that "an armed society is a polite society", and that's what free-staters want, a polite society, one where that gun never needs to be drawn. A gun on the hip doesn't express distrust or an intention to do harm, it expresses the desire to deal with other people rationally, and the expectation that others will do the same.
I'm in Crook county today, in part to assess the possibility of moving here myself someday. If I wanted a place just like where I came from, I would stay where I come from, or I could find any number of places all over this country just like it.
If I do come here, it will be because I like what Wyoming is already. Yes, I will try to build on that, just as anyone who tries to make something of their life does. I will try to build a life out of what Wyoming has to offer. I may build a house, I may build a business, and I may help build whatever community I choose to settle in.
If that changes Wyoming in some small way, well, things change, that's part of life. People will come here, change will come. But I hope that if I participate in any of that change that it will be to make Wyoming more of what it already is, not a carbon copy of something that nobody in Wyoming wants Wyoming to be.

reply in the silliest fashion) don't make me lose any sleep...

Boston and Bobcat,
Thanks for the kind words. It hasn't shown up yet, though I can't think of any reason they'd reject it. I'll repost.
