Title: Greetings From Communist Maryland!
Post by: Rich-in-MD on April 28, 2008, 10:31:32 AM
Greetings from Communist Maryland!  My name is Richie.  I genuinely love my state.  I love the culture, the history, the harbor, etc.  Moving out of this state would hurt me in some ways.  What I don't like are the socialist laws and high taxes.  I'm very close to turning 18, and I'm starting to think about what I want to do with my life.  I'm not entirely convinced yet that Wyoming is the place for me, but it's certainly a possibility.  Montana and New Hampshire seem like decent places to live as well.

One of my concerns about states like Montana and Wyoming is their size - somebody once told me that by car, it can take a two day trip to reach the opposite side of Montana (is this true, or exaggerated?).  The size of New Hampshire is a plus - it doesn't take a long time to get together with free staters in different towns.  The downside to New Hampshire are the Massachusetts liberals I've heard so much about migrating up.

What about crime in Wyoming?  Due to the low population and open carry laws, I'm assuming that it's pretty low.

What's the status of REAL-ID in Wyoming?

How active is the Libertarian Party?  In a low populated state like Wyoming, it shouldn't be hard to get a few Libertarians elected to local offices or even the State House.  How close have they gotten to being elected in the past?

These questions are only scraping the surface of my curiosity, so I hope you guys would be willing to help educate me about this beautiful state!

Rich, all that and more has been discussed in detail on this forum - some many times. Do a search for those topics and you should find a wealth of information. Look around the forum and you'll find answers to questions you've not thought of yet. <G>

The bottom line is: what is most important to you? I'd advise you to sit down and make a list of priorities. Gather all the information you can, and then make a comparison of pros and cons of each potential place for each priority.

In other words, find out all you can and then count the cost. Only you can decide what is right for you to do. I'll help all I can, and I know others here will do so as well.

To answer two of your questions:
1. Yes, there are vast distances between places out here. Most of us see that as a big plus.
2. The crime rate is very low here, for many reasons. And a lot fewer things are considered "crime" in the first place, which also helps.

Come visit. See for yourself. :)

Hey Rich.  I'm about your age (21), and what I did before choosing Wyoming is make a list of all the differences in lifestyle that I would encounter between NH and WY.  There was a thread about the detailed differences between Wyoming and New Hampshire.  I just tried looking for it, but I can't find it, any help?

Others have answered some of your questions, but I'll answer your LP questions.

The FSW, and these forums, as well as some of the members, such as MamaLiberty, are not involved in any elections or politics as usual, and they make it quite clear, right ML?  ;)

As has been said many time about this movement, it is an Umbrella movement or organization, to be used mostly for networking and social connections.  Other members here are active in attempting to get libertarians (small L, as far as I'm aware) elected to offices.  For info about this, Don "Chill" Wills started a pretty lengthy (and somewhat heated) topic about the FSW here: http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?topic=5872.0 (http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?topic=5872.0), which ended up basically with a consensual agreement that another group in Wyoming was to handle the political aspect, as well as getting relocaters in Wyoming (sort of what Molon Labe dealt with, but probably not on that scale, yet).  If you have questions about that, private message Don "Chill" Wills about it, and he'll give you info.

Anything I forget?

Right. Personally, I don't hold anything at all against those who wish to participate in electoral politics. I just do not find it congruent with non-aggression.

FSW members are certainly free to engage in any activity they wish, but they cannot use the name of FSW to promote it or themselves without permission from Boston. They are free to work with other members in forming new groups for any purpose, of course, but it must be independent of the FSW name.

Thinking of this (http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?topic=4823.msg35889#msg35889)?

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!  I'll definitely read through this board in depth and learn more about the state.

I'm single, intelligent, straight, and young, but I don't consider myself a conservative (Libertarian).  What about specifically Laramie would be hostel to me?  XD

There are  many lonely young ladies here as we have the only 4 year college in the whole state. The ratio of lass's to lads is nearly 2/1. Factor in all the "losers" in your gender here and do the math. A lot of the ladies commute over to Cheyenne to find dates 'cause FE Warren AFB is over there. If you're not in re-hab or on parole you'll be inundated quick!

Howdy Rich-in-MD!
I was in the NE a long time ago. I had just come off of a fishing boat that I had been on for a year in Alaska.
One thing that I will never forget is the cultural differance between the East coat and the West coast. The East seemed very class concious and stratified, and the West seemed wide open.

To this young man(at the time) it was night and day.

But, isn't Laramie all you really need to know?
