Anyone have any experience with WY troopers or police, or know any personally? Maybe a new thread for that, so as not to deviate from this one?
I spent 59 years in California, much of that driving all over, so I had plenty of experience with Calif. cops and CHP... not much of it good, though I only had one ticket. (That's another story. <G>)
When I moved to Wyoming, I didn't know what to expect. Actually, didn't give it much thought until my first encounter. I had taken some handgun classes in Sundance and during the last one announced that I would begin to open carry that day.
On the way home, I was stopped by a cop just outside of town. As soon as he came to the window I recognized him as the one who had given the "use of lethal force" lecture in the class.
I was VERY nervous, and sure I was either going to jail or die.... just gut reaction... when the first thing he said was, "where's the gun?"
So, I pointed to my waist (I had a .357M revolver), and he gave me a big grin and said, "OK." Thought I'd faint right there. <G>
He proceeded to tell me I'd been going just a little fast and to watch for deer on the darkening road, then let me go with a smile.
Wow! What a difference.

Awesome ML! Glad you were nervous over nothing. Sounds like a Police Officer who knew what his job was! ~W~

The weird part is that he was not friendly to the idea that ANYONE should carry when we were in the class. He proudly announced that he didn't carry when off duty... for the safety of his family!! Safety... when he's disarmed? How does that work? I challenged him on that, but that's were we left it in the class.
But he knows the Wyoming law and culture well enough not to make a beef out of it, I guess. I just hope we can somehow educate him and all the others who do not understand that their families are NOT safer when they do not carry.

I got to know one particular Jackson cop a bit too well. He discovered my vandwelling the second year I was there and ran me out to the county, which was a better place to be anyway.
His megalomania was attributable to his father having been a federal magistrate and his abject failure in a sheriff election.

Mama, that was one funny story!
"Am I going to die or what?" LOL
I was just in Wyoming last week. I hopped into the truck to drive down to the Casper airport and found I was sharing my seat with a Remington Model 700 in 22-250. I guess the rancher figured there may be targets of opportunity on the way.

With the rate of governmental metastasis, there's always a target of opportunity. The problem is finding the surgeon with enough courage to do the deed.
