Free State Wyoming,
My wife and I heard about you guys from a friend. We hope to be moving there within a decade ("Hopefully sooner", she just said). We're looking to be at the next Jamboree. You seem like a great bunch.
Sincerely,
David James Koolhoven

Hello David J,
Good to see you, and welcome to the forum.
So you think that you might make it to the Jamboree?
-
Why would you want to leave wonderful Kalifornia? With the governator and all the great leaders there?
Hey, I used to live there what seems a long time ago so I know how it is.
Just chime in whenever you want and take part in the conversation. It's for everyone to share and learn.
Say hi to Arnie for me, and Pelosi, and Boxer, and Feinstein. >:D

You make it sound like you have never been to WY. If not, you are in for a treat. My family and I finally went over last Thanksgiving. I had never been there myself and having been wanting to move there for the last couple of years. We were looking at moving this summer. The housing market isn't making it very easy for that to happen. Hopefully by next year we can get what we want out of our house.
The Bighorn Mtns. are breathtakingly beautiful. The only place we (regrettably) weren't able to see is the Thermopolis area. It was really nice to meet in person a couple of people from the forum, like MamaLiberty and The Count.
My husband and I have been meaning to post a few of the hundreds of pictures that we took in our travels.
What part of Northern CA? I pretty much grew up in No. CA. My husband and I moved from So. CA (via Jacksonville, FL) here to northern NV over 7 years ago and even Donald Trump wouldn't have enough money to pay us to move back. :P

Well howdy David and Kate, welcome to FSW !
Kate ,see the thread on the get together here http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?topic=7363.0
(I love it that Kate is telling David , "sooner"!)
Lots of info here for you both to look at, dig in and ask any questions you might have.

Hey,
Yeah, I went once when I was a little kid but I barely remember anything. David hasn't been.
We're in Sonoma County. I moved out here from Florida and can't wait to leave XD

thank you SO much for the link! I'm going to look at it now ^_^

Welcome!
I live in California (SoCal, used to live in San Fran) and I'm not sure California will exist in any recognizable form in a decade. I think the economy and crime is going to make it unlivable within a year or two. California will dissolve far faster than most of the rest of the country.
That's my 2 cents and my happy ray of morning sunshine.
We're in Wyoming checking it out now. We are debating just staying. Really can't, but really do feel like it. It's nice here. ! ~W~ :D

Hey David and Kate!
I'm glad to hear that some people from our neck of the woods are making their way to Wy. We are up in Arcata, Ca and plan on heading to Wyoming sometime between July and next spring. There is nothing quite like Wyoming, once you get there you will never want to leave! Welcome to FSW and have a great trip!
-
We finally posted a little over 30 pictures from our trip. Here is the post regarding the pictures:

I hope everyone enjoyed the camp-out, that made it anyway. Unfortunately, we couldn't wing it. :-\
Good luck to everyone, migrating to WY in the (hopefully) near future!! ;)

THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
As someone raised in Wyoming that's currently stuck in the northern end of California ( read WAY above the Bay Area) I must concur with the above opinion.
California is currently broke , and still catering to special interest groups from the growing illegal alien movement geared towards taking over the state ( research La Mecha sometime) to the various splinter fringe groups caterwauling about their "rights" when they deserve a few lefts into the bargain.
This is still a physically beautiful state , that said the political system ,the lawmakers and the vast majority of the people leave a great deal to be desired.
The Golden State has become living proof that gold CAN tarnish.
And in this end of the state ,at this time of the year one dare to traipse into the vast acreage of national forest and public lands , not unless one plans on going very heavily armed and in some numbers , you may well never come back out since from upper Lake county all the way to the Oregon border it's now been vitually taken over by the Mexican Growing cartels and their illegal agribusiness.
California has gone to hell in the proverbial handbasket and the downhill slide continues at an accelerating pace , overall unemployment for the state is about 12% and some of these counties in the north state are over 20%.
Time to get out , can't go back to Texas because I don't want to be involved in the border wars ( and I assure you that it IS a war ,all the way from the Big Bend down to Del Rio) so that leaves home to Wyoming or back up to Alaska.

Hi, BlueNote,
Really sad to hear the the Northern end has gone that way.
I used to live in Etna, down the Scott Valley from Yreka and Fort Jones.
It was such a beautiful are back then (very early '70s) and Callahan was quite a trip!
Then, in about 5 minutes, you could walk out of town into near virgin forest.
Oh, Well, so it goes.
Come back to the High, Wide, and Lonesome, and help save what we still have here.

It's still beautiful , but it's changed. Remember Hayfork? Half the damn speed labs in the north end of the state are in Hayfork now , it's truly become the posterior orifice of Trinity county.
Hwy 3 is still one of my favorite rides ,along with 36 of course and 96 ,299 has so many airheads and so mcu traffic that it's only useful as way of getting to the good roads.
Can't walk out into that virgin forest anymore ,too much chance of running across some growing for profit type that would just use you for fertiliser. I don't see why they don't jusy legalise it , maybe we could just sell off all the helicopters ,Suburbans ,Broncos etc. and put the money back into the school system or open a few libraries back up. But if they did that then they couldn't ask for appropiations for all those nice toys and the feds would have no reason to be running around the backcountry.
As it is the population is now caught between stormtrooper antics on one side and the criminal behavior on the other side. It's a very sad situation.
And I'll preface this next by stating *NO I am not racist* , however La Mecha and the various other La Raza type groups ARE taking over certain areas of the state in an accelerating way.
Sad very sad........

Modoc is northern, Sonoma is more central. Do you guys ski? ;D

Not a single place either he or I mentioned is in Sonoma County , and Modoc county is the far northeastern county in the state , there's a lotta ground between Sonoma and Modoc , and a lotta ground between Modoc county and my locale.
And nobody in their right mind wants to live in Sonoma county now anyway , it's where all the yuppie wine snobs for whom Napa county wasn't hip and trendy enough went to.
And nope personally I don't ski if I can get out of it , if I want individual transport upon snow I'll get out my snowshoes , easier to manage a pack ,a rifle and twenty spare traps on snowshoes that on cross country skis.

Follow-up (my last post on this thread was written while just visiting here.)
My wife and I moved to Casper, have been living here five months, and we LOVE LIVING IN WYOMING! YAY! WOOT HOOT!
It's seriously the best decision we've ever made, in every way.
