Title: Open-carry vacation to Wyoming
Post by: MichaelNotMike on June 04, 2009, 05:57:45 AM
Howdy all. We're in the hotel in Provo, about to have breakfast, read the USA Today, then get in the car and drive to Wyoming. We're about 90 miles from the freedom to carry. I've never done it, and I'm up too early this morning, happy as a kid on Christmas.

Here's day one of blog post series, with photos:
http://www.stinkfight.com/2009/06/04/open-carry-vacation-to-wyoming-day-1/

I'll be blogging all week, with pix, about our adventures in Wyoming. Blog posts will be here:

Congrats, glad you like it out here!  Oh yeah, don't know if anyone told you, but you can buy fireworks year-round here - if your town has a fireworks stand.  And those ground squirrels we call prairie dogs.  Can't wait to meet you guys!

I know! Looking forward to it.

We had a blast today with Mac &Vicki, Richard, Jared. Very cool folks. Fun to finally meet some of y'all. It kinda feels like people on the Internet are "imaginary playmates" until you actually have lunch with 'em!  :D

Day 3 post 'n' pix up now:

Devil's Tower and antelope! Yay!

MWD and DJD, sleepy, happy, and watching "Red Dawn" in the hotel.  ~W~

Hey, great news, and thanks for the posts!
Maybe I'll catch up with you both in Cheyenne.

Good shooting at the Appleseed.

Boston

Thank you!

Day four is up now:
http://www.stinkfight.com/2009/06/06/open-carry-vacation-to-wyoming-day-4/ (http://www.stinkfight.com/2009/06/06/open-carry-vacation-to-wyoming-day-4/)

Good shooting at the Appleseed.

You're wishing us well, right? Or did you here and untrue rumor that we shot well today?  :D

I scored a 127 on the AQT (Army Qualifying Test). Good enough to not be relegated to cooking, but far from a rifleman. It’s a start. And pretty good for a guy who one year ago thought only police and soldiers should have guns.

p/s
I came up with a good one in Sundance: You know you're in Wyoming when the elevation is four times the population!

Been following Michael and DJ's trip on stinkfight.com.  I'm a big fan of Micheal's work, and he's a big fan of this group, so I thought I'd check it out for myself.  I don't plan on moving to Wyoming, but I do love freedom.  Hopefully that's enough to earn me a spot on this board.

Howdy raginredneck93, if you like freedom you are welcome here. Hope you stick around and read some of the other threads.

MWD , I am really enjoying your stories, I would have loved to know how the conversation went between the three boys at Mc D's and their parents, after the kids got home. Hopefully they were good Wyoming folks!

(everyone OK'ed the group open-carry photo at lunch, but I forgot to ask about names, so didn't use any. If anyone wants their name on there, or another name, let me know please.)

My name is Justin. I heard you mention FSW on your podcast last year, and that it had made you want to move to Wyoming. Glad you're finally really doing it!  I live in Montana, and I've spent a lot of time in Wyoming in my life.  It's a great place, and after living in California, you're going to think you died and went to the United States Of America or something.  Welcome to to one of the last remaining vestiges of freedom on the planet.

Well said raginredneck93, and welcome to the Forum!

Hey Michael and Debra Jean, I am really enjoying your posts at your blog site.

Do you want to share any figures as to how many visitors you get every day?
I think that you have tapped a whole new demographic for the FSW, well done.
Artists, film folk, and rockers, are often, at heart, Liberty oriented.

Exactly!

Wyoming reminds me of Sherman, NY when I was 5 (40 years ago.) Sherman is the town my dad grew up in, and its values are about 25 years behind the claw of "progress" in most of the rest of the country. So I'd say Wyoming, while it is modern in every way that matters to me, seems to have values that the rest of the country enjoyed right after WWII.

Welcome Justin. Good to have you here. And since you live in Montana, I won't tell you "you need to move to Wyoming" like I've told a few other liberty minded people.

Well, it varies. But here's the current views so far on my open carry posts:
Day two: 405 views
Day three: 290 views
Day one: 254 views
Day four: 213 views
Day five and six: 132 views
Day six and seven won't be up until tomorrow. My stats are every 24 hours, I am too lazy to configure on-the-fly awstats.

Stuff I do tends to have a very long tail, because it gets picked up other places. For instance, DJ and I only have about 100 subscribers to our podcast, Radio Free Nestlandia
http://www.nestlandia.com/ (http://www.nestlandia.com/)
But all the episodes that have been out a few months have over a thousand downloads.

An early example of the stuff getting re-blogged, this UK site has blogged my blogging, (with a photo of me with a gun in front of a Subway in Wyoming)
http://forums.grahamcoxon.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4263&start=51930
The UK people, who cannot own guns, seem a little mind blown by open carry. (Probably think "that's what's wrong with America!" lol....)

Well, they also tend to be liberals! But I "get them", I was that way. Many artist are really into liberty, but vote democrat because they don't know better. I can convert them though, because I was like them. I can sit down to coffee with them, and speak "one man to another", as a peer, and explain why democrats are destroying America, and they'll get it, if they have it in them.

I know a lot of people. Probably literally more than 5000 people. And a lot of people "know me" who I haven't met yet.

But I'm pretty picky with who I'm telling "you should move here." I have one conservative friend who may move here for college, and she is a championship archer, and used to be an archery teacher. But I have warned her about the weather. She's only ever lived in Puerto Rico, Florida and SoCal. She might shiver to death here.

I'm really working on one friend, my friend Mark in New Jersey. He's from Oklahoma, owns "a few too many guns" and says "I bow to no government." (Then what the fark is he doing living in Newark?!) He's hard working and owns his own business (T-shirt printing company). He really should be here. He's a great artist too. He's a great painter, does psychedelic Western art. His heroes are John Wayne and the Sex Pistols. He should be here.

I feel odd talking about recruiting migration when I don't even live her yet. But my heart already lives here, I'm just not getting my mail here yet.

BUT! - - - DJ is ironing her clothes in the hotel room right now for a JOB INTERVIEW TODAY WITH A LAW FIRM in CASPER! Yay! So, maybe I'll be a resident pretty soon, if things go well.

Wish her goodness with the interview!

typo correct:

He owns "a few too many guns"

should be

He owns "a few dozen too many guns"

(and I know you cannot ever own too many. I'm quoting someone else on here who once said of themselves "I own a few dozen too many guns." Don't remember who it was, but I like it.

I hope to someday.
Here's me yesterday afternoon, dreaming and saying "excellent...."

So did you guys find a place to settle in Wyoming?
Title: Re: Open-carry vacation to Wyoming
Post by: MichaelNotMike on June 13, 2009, 06:23:41 PM
We've picked Casper, renting in town at least through first winter. Can move July 15th., will simply then be a matter of finding a place that will take two smokers with three cats.

Two smokers? Just wait until the FDA gets a hold of you! They'll have a national ban on renting apartments to people "like you". You'll have to pay for people in white sterile suits to come out and "decontaminate" your living quarters. You won't be able to smoke within 1,000 miles of any school!

Glad you guys had so much fun coming out here. Kinda like a trip thru Disney's Fantasy Land, huh?
