I see now that I have officially become a “lurker”. ;D So after poking about the forum and posting a few musings, it has come to my attention that I have committed a breach of etiquette by not properly introducing myself. For that, I apologize. So here goes.
My name is Charlie. I am 52 years old and my bride and I have been married for 29 years. I am about six months away from retiring from the USAF, where I am employed as an instructor pilot. BTW, how I got to be 52 at twenty years of military service is at least a three beer conversation. In the past I have been a farmer, a janitor, a cook, an iron worker, a carpenter, a painter, laborer, and a myriad of others. I love being outdoors, especially camping. I have enjoyed everything from car camping, to canoe trips, and back packing trips in all kinds of weather and conditions. I like to hunt and fish (but haven’t do so in a number of years). My skill with firearms has withered considerably (but I am working on getting it back). I really want to become a rifleman (never really learned). Lets see what else. I am a pretty good mechanic. I do all my own work on our vehicles. Our house is literally a zoo with dogs, cats, birds, and even a rabbit. Anything worth learning, I have taught myself with the advise friends and mentors.
My political beliefs might surprise you since I have been entrenched in a military organization for some time. Starting with the elephant in the room, I’d say the US Constitution is/was at best a sort of delay tactic that’s been used to gradually inculcate the US into tyranny (and we are just about there). At this point, I think the country is beyond “fixing”. The only hope is to draw your own line in the sand and say, “no more”. That and as much as possible, find and live with like minded people. Armed, freedom loving patriot citizens scare tyrants and capable, determined patriots just might have a chance keeping them at bay. If not, in my last measure, I won’t have any regrets.
Religion, I call my self a Christian, but I attend no organized church. I have read my Bible and have even studied parts of the New Testament in the Koine Greek. I have come to the belief that government comes from Satan himself (now I‘m either a kook or a one man cult). Look at biblical and secular history. Government is not a requirement for civilization. Actually, there is very little that is “civil” about government. Patrick Henry figured it out. I also sometimes wonder if Christ’s rule with a rod of iron during the Millennium will mean making everyone (at least in part) mind their own business.
The time for debating and whining is done and past and it is time get my game together and take action. I only hope I haven’t started too late. I have made some tactical errors (years in the making) and am working on correcting those now. I have a lot of learning and work to do .
If you have any questions, ask away. Also, if I say or do anything that just doesn’t seem right, call me out on it. I may fume a bit, but we’ll figure it out. Thank you for your kind attention.
Very respectfully,
Charlie

We have lots of current/former grunts, jarheads, squids and zoomies here and you're more than welcome. Do you ski?
-
Biathlon,
When the wife and I were younger, we were on a Ski Patrol at a very small ski area. When the first child arrived, that was the end of that. Didn't ski again until some 20 years later. Made a quick trip to Colorado and had a blast.

Outstanding! I'm in the middle of the outdoor emergency care refresher now and will be patrolling(read "Ski for free") at the small area above Laramie. Lemme know when ya git here. Lift tickets are on me ;D

Hi Charlie!
Welcome, though I'm newer to here than you are. Still, it's nice to make your aquaintance. Best of fortune in starting your next chapter.

Tornos...Hi and thanks.
Biathlon...what's the name of the ski area?
