In Newcastle/Gilette/Hulett on the 30th
« on: August 18, 2007, 01:53:10 PM »
Hi all,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I lurk once in a while.  My girlfriend and I are going to be in the Newcastle/Gilette/Hulett area on Thursday the 30th.  We'll mostly be sightseeing and checking out what it is like for if/when we decided to move out to Wyo, and we thought it would be fun to meet some of y'all.  Anybody up in that area want to get together for lunch or something?  Aside from that, is there anything interesting going on that day?  Where should we go, what should we see?

I'd love to meet you! My place is in Newcastle. PM for directions and phone number. :)

I'll be home on the 30th, for sure. I have to be in Sundance on Friday, but would love to have you come visit Thursday. If anyone else around here wants to meet at my house, just let me know you're coming!  MamaLiberty

MamaLiberty,

Somehow, I knew you'd be the one to speak up ;D  We'd love to come by your place, and I hope you can gather a few more Free Staters for a get-together.  We'll be in the area all day Thursday, so any time of day is fine by us, but we do want to do some exploring, too.

I clicked your name, and it won't let me see your profile.  How do I find your PM/phone?

Pm on the way! You have to be a member to see the profiles, I think. Anyway, it will be wonderful to welcome you to Newcastle!

See you then!

Kyle,
I'd love to meet you, but I will be out of town on that date. Bummer. I'm always interested in meeting new folks.

Mac,

That's too bad.  We're hoping to meet as many FSers as possible.  Oh well, another time, hopefully.  Of course, I should hang out on these boards more and meet more of you that way.  I posted an introduction and discussion of my situation re moving, a long, long time ago, but it's not in my profile history any more.  I think it was before the boards changed over.  I'll try and do that again soon.

We're almost there. In Colo Springs for another day, then heading up to Wyo.  Does anybody know how good the Bear Lodge in Sundance is?  It looks alright from their website, and better than the Best Worstern, or the Rodeway.  Any other recommendations?  Is there any reason it might be hard to find a room up there this week?

Bear Lodge is pretty decent, esp. compared to the Rodeway.

There's a Mustang rally from the 30th to the 2nd, but not sure how busy it's supposed to get.  It's centered on Sturgis but we'll likely see at least some business from it.

We're sitting in a motel in Evanston now, after a long day's drive across the state from Sundance.  I'll write more about my experience and impressions when we get home, but we wanted to thank Susan, Chris, and Jared for their hospitality and great conversation.  I've been to Wyo once before, about ten years ago, but I only saw a corner of the state, and never met the people.  I must say, now we're both very impressed.  That vague itch we've had to get ourselves out here for good has turned into... well, I won't stretch the analogy by calling it a full-fledged rash, but you get the point.  ::)

By the way, the gas station/mini mart in Muddy Gap has a "wall of fame" where visitors can sign and say "I was here".  It now has a prominent note saying "Kyle and Sally, visiting the Free State Wyoming".

Great to meet the both of you!  Glad you enjoyed the trip, and I'm sure we'll be seeing you again sooner than you think. :)

Chris and Jared,

Thanks again.  Chris, there's nothing I can think of right now, but if there is, I'll be sure to ask.

I still mean to do a writeup of our trip, and something about my current situation and thoughts regarding a possible move.  We came home Sunday, after driving 500 miles from Kanab UT home to Tucson, to find our two mature mesquites leveled from a storm.  One of them was blocking the alley behind the house, so after quickly unpacking the car, I got out the chainsaw and started chopping it up.  That took until it got too dark to see, and then most of the next morning.  That's a long way of explaining that, though I meant to write up the above, time hasn't been on my side all week.  I should get to it this weekend.

And there's pictures of our trip up at www.going1nce.com/trip07 - including Susan proudly showing off her .357.
