Firearm Safety Instructor Training Course

A National Rifle Association Instructor Training Course will be offered at Gillette, Wyoming.  This instructor training course begins Saturday July 12, 2008 and completes Sunday July 13, 2008.  The course includes lecture, instructor candidate hands-on participation and live firing sessions on the shooting range.

Two instructor disciplines will be offered at this NRA Instructor Training Course, successful completion of the course requirements will allow the instructor candidates to apply to the National Rifle Association (NRA) for certification as a NRA Home Firearm Safety Instructor (HFS) and also as a NRA Pistol Instructor.  The course will be limited to ten instructor candidates for each discipline.  The course fee for this instructor training course is $200.00 and all necessary materials for the courses are furnished.

As an opportunity for currently certified NRA instructors to acquire an additional instructor discipline certification, currently certified NRA instructors may choose to attend the NRA Home Firearm Safety Instructor training on Saturday afternoon or may choose to attend the NRA Pistol Instructor training on Sunday.  The cost for the HFS training will be $50.00 and for the Pistol instructor training $75.00.

You must pre-register for this NRA Instructor Training Course.  A pre-course assessment of the candidate’s safety and shooting skills is required.  Due to the short lead time planning this course and our need to order instructional materials for the course from NRA, we require that you contact one of the NRA Training Counselors listed below no later than Wednesday, June 25, 2008 with a commitment to attend this course.

NRA Certified Instructors present basic firearm safety training courses to the public in their communities.  NRA Certified Instructors train thousands of people each year in the United States and elsewhere in the safe use of firearms.

I should have added that you do not need to be an NRA member to become an NRA Certified Instructor.

I'll also add that becoming an NRA instructor and actually getting out in the world and teaching folks about guns and safety is rewarding.  I think that we need to spread the word in any way we're able that guns, shooting and carrying a defensive weapon are completely ordinary activities.
