Hello everyone in FSW,
In the 1940s and '50s my late dad, his late mom (my grandma) and his late stepdad lived around Cheyenne, Hanna (Carbon Co.), Laramie and Tie Siding (Albany Co.).  My dad took correspondence courses from University Of Wyoming.  He enlisted in the Army in 1947.  He and his stepdad worked for Union Pacific Railroad, helping to build that railroad in WY.  My dad's stepdad was a crew foreman for many years. He told me that in the snow blizzards they had to build snow tunnels and hold a flathead shovel against or in front of their face to breathe and maybe to see.  Maybe later I will post their photos I have from this period.  My dad may still have friends from WY who are still living (and in WY).  I don't know for sure why but they eventually later moved back to Oklahoma (maybe back and forth, on and off) and then my dad later (1960s?) moved to Arkansas and Louisiana and back to Oklahoma.  In the 1970s he met and married my mom, who is from Mississippi, and they had me.  I was born in Oklahoma but we moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, when I was 3 years old. So this is where I mainly grew up and lived most of my life.  My parents and I took a roadtrip to SE WY in Summer, 1982 or '83, when I was about 9 years old.  I remember little a bit about Cheyenne and/or Laramie.  We stayed at an Econolodge or Travelodge.  I remember more about Snowy Range Pass.  In June or July snow on the highway/road was plowed up like 10, 12 or more feet high walls on both sides of the road.  I think I still have a few Polaroid photo shots from this.  I picked up a few chunks of rose quartz somewhere in SE WY and brought them back home in Arkansas and still have them.  I'll bring them back when I come back eventually to WY.

I'd like to write my dad's biography and come to WY and trace and visit the places where my dad and grandparents lived.  I'd also like to do some flyfishing in a lake or river in WY.  I'm weary of the heat and humidity of Southern Summertime.  Every Summer I want to head North where it's cooler.

I just found out about Free Keene and Free State Project last weekend and earlier this week.  I read on Wikipedia that WY was a close runner-up when New Hampshire won the vote for FSP.  Then I learned and am glad that FSW perpetuates or promotes a gun culture since I defend and support the Second Amendment, like to target practice/shoot and own guns.  I'd rather hot be surrounded by "blue states" and Yankees anyway.  I haven't seen an attraction or call for liberty activists per se to FSW like i have FSP in NH.  I am a board director in a national civil, Constitutional and family rights organization, which is all about children needing both parents, court watching, equal parental rights, independent media, preserving families and marriage, decreasing and reforming government, judicial accountability, litigation, pro-family events and legislation, other politics and rights.

Are there many storms and tornadoes in WY?  My wife is a certified and trained storm spotter, but she really wants to chase them.  Our school-age son liked our roadtrip to Colorado the end of last year.  I think he too will like WY.

Sincerely,
Kinley

Welcome, Kinley! I hope you can come visit Wyoming and see all the places in your family history. It is a moving experience. My father was born and raised in the Black Hills, though we do not know the exact place. It was a ranch next to an Indian reservation, and we don't know the name of the nearest town... or even which state it would be. Could have been Wyoming, Montana or South Dakota. He was born in 1886 - and died when I was 4 years old.

But just BEING here in Wyoming makes me feel so close to him, and walking in the Black Hills - right outside my back door - is an experience I waited almost a lifetime to have, even thought I didn't know it until I got here.

Come to visit the FSW folks here in Newcastle. We'll walk out there together. :)

There is an occasional tornado in the eastern side of the state (I understand), but probably not enough to satisfy a chaser. There must be maps available to show such things?

Thanks to those who replied to my first post on this forum.  I've been following Pastor Steven Anderson's blogs, sermons and videos in which he stands up for Constitutional freedoms.  He was cut up, stepped on and Tased for exercising his Fourth Amendment rights.  For more info go to www.StevenAndersonFamily.blogspot.com, www.TrueBornSons.com and www.youtube.com/sanderson1611  I've also been following Sam "Dodson" Miller's and others' activities and videos with the Free State Project in New Hampshire.  Sam was put in jail, and just got out, for expressing his Freedom of the Press and Right To Remain Silent by videotaping in a courthouse and then not giving his name or other info after being arrested and jailed.  In jail he went on a hunger strike.  For more info on him and others in Keene, NH, go to: [urlhttp://FreeKeene.com[/url], http://FreeSamDodson.com and www.ObscuredTruth.com

On July 24-26 my organization, United Civil Rights Councils of America, will be holding in Dallas, Denver and 5 other regional cities an event about faith, family and freedom called ParentStock 2009.  For more info go to www.ParentStock2009.com and www.UnitedCivilRights.org/conquest09.html

I have car rental and lodging reservations for August 3-10 in Fort Collins, CO.  From there I plan to drive side trips up to the Cheyenne and Laramie areas of Wyoming to fish a little, research for my dad's biography, sight see and participate in/visit Free State Wyoming.  This is the best and close as I can come right now to moving to Wyoming.  Does anyone know where in Eastern Oklahoma, Eastern Texas, N.W. Arkansas, N.E. Colorado or S.E. Wyoming I can get copies of Kenneth "Boston T. Party" Royce's books?

Hi kinley I am amazed by the wild lightning and tstorms I see from my position in the convergence
zone where the storms either split to the north or south as they approach the blk hills.

This is in many cases an excellent vantage point to see some wild weather yet not to have to deal often with the consequences of the storms.

Enjoy the wy experience  and if you make it up I'll have one of the camps spots open for you

Good Luck and Welcome

Rich

I'm glad you are going to be able to come visit! Boston's books are always available here: http://javelinpress.com/ and many can be found at Amazon.com.  Finding them in book stores might be pretty hit or miss, but you could look. They are often available at gun shows, but those are mostly done for the summer here.

Good luck, and I hope to be able to meet you one of these days. :)
