First of all, I'd like to thank you for letting me post my thoughts here. I'll get right to the point. My family is getting worried about the current economic situation in this country and because of it all, we fear we may be in danger. I was born and raised here and always loved being right in the middle of all the action. We are around 30 miles from NYC and 50-60 miles from Philadelphia. Close the the ocean and the "mountains" here. A little bit of everything. But we are also in the most densely populated state in the country. If and when the SHTF, a lot of people here will do anything to survive, and all hell will break loose. We want to get away from the danger and get off the grid, so we're thinking about moving away. Problem is we are on a tight budget as my current job isnt bringing in too much money and my boyfriends line of work has taken a major turn. He is a contractor, so since new homes arent being built and people cant afford home improvements as much as they used to, we are in a bit of a bind. Moving to a new location is dangerous if you dont have jobs lined up already. On the site that guided me here, people are saying we'd better have work guarenteed before we pack up and leave. But I'm also hearing that most employers wont hire out of state folks when they have plenty of locals looking for work.
Ive heard that Wyoming is absolutely breathtaking, and the most beautiful, majestic place on earth, but can also be very rough with the harsh winter months. Growing season isnt so long either from what Ive been told, and wherever we move to, we'd be looking to have a substantial garden. So we would be looking into renting a small home. An apartment wouldnt work for us, so I'm wondering if there are homes for rent? And what is the job market like out there as well as the cost of living? I welcome any and all advise as I dont know anything about the area, or which area would be best. We're still discussing where in the country would be the safest and most affordable place to be.
