The number doesn't mean much. Looking at my email log of signups, there were about a thousand in the last two months. Maybe a hundred are actual humans. Maybe a couple dozen or so posted messages.
My guess is that the number of active readers is way under a thousand, and obviously the posters are in the low hundreds at most.
