WTB wood rack for my shotgun.
« on: January 18, 2013, 02:36:09 PM »
I need a rack on the wall for my Mossy 500 shotgun. It doesn't need to be pretty or new, just clean and sturdy. No idea what it might be worth... $50. or less, if possible.

You should be able to make something for less than $20.  Depends on design and how you want it to look.

I recently bought a second safe and decided to organize things a bit better...

Got these from Midway.

Decent, inexpensive, and with a roll of velcro will attach nicely to my carpeted safe wall.  I took out the cheesy divider that came with the safe.

Another project was getting a lazy Susan base from Amazon for $14.  I also went to Orchard Supply and grabbed some plywood rounds and pipe.  Got a 17" round, put a threaded 3/4" pipe mount on the bottom, same on the top and I just need to cut slots for the barrels to fit through.  When I'm done it will be a nice carousel for scoped toys or oddball sized stuff like SKS and Garands.  I think total cost was under $50.  It would have been less but I don't have access to tools at the moment.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, but you see... this is the problem. When I look at hammers and nails, the hammers cry and the nails just go ahead and bend on their own because they know if I hit them, they are dead. sigh... I do quite well in the kitchen and the garden, but I'm hopeless as far as building things with tools. I have a brand new dremel tool, and no idea whatsoever what to do with it. :)

Actually, that's an idea. I also have an electric chain saw, run twice... I can't handle it. Maybe someone would like to build me a rack and trade for the saw?

I need this rack to hold the shotgun on the wall near my bed. I don't much care what it looks like, as long as it is sturdy and not so heavy it will take the wall down if I grab the gun in an emergency. :)

I'm considering getting something like this:

Something like this?

I bet Wally world or a local shop would have pretty much the same thing.   Couple expanding bolts in the wall, and you're all set.

Well, sure. If I wanted to buy a new one from the store I'd have done so a long time ago. sigh  And I don't "do" ebay for anything, thanks. :)

I have one for you.  For free.  It's even a hare-loom - my dad made it when he was in high school, which could also qualify it as an antique.  I believe it'll hold four.  Just gotta work out getting it over to you.

Oh my, thank you! But are you sure you'd want to part with it? How I wish I could have some of the things my father made.

Sounds like it would be wonderful for the other guns that have stood in the closet for so long. I don't think I'd want four guns over my bed, actually, but it would be great to get the others off the floor. Someone has offered to make me a rack for the shotgun, so I'll be really set. :)

Let me know how you want to proceed. Can't remember if you live anywhere around here... but if you come, I'll cook! :)

Just wanted to let everyone know that the problem is solved. Senior Tech built me a marvelous rack. He and his wife hung it for me. Bless you! It holds my three favorites... the Mossy 500 shotgun, the M1 carbine and the 30-30 Marlin. No more standing in the corner of the closet! YAY

Thank you, so much!

Excellent!  I do still have the other one if you need it.

Great! I still have three other guns standing in the corner... put them on the other side of the room?  >:D

Then I'll have a California style "arsenal."  ::)

Hmm, sounds like we'd have to pot luck it then. :) I can't handle hot stuff at all. But that's ok... we could still go shooting! :)
