GATTACA... where it wasn't the Government that destroyed lives, but your "insurability" (or lack thereof) determined by your genetics...

Sort of. The government made it illegal to use DNA testing to discriminate but it was so cheap & easy to secretly test someone most companies did it and used the information to fire those who were likely to get sick or be a drain on the company long term. People also tested possible partners so if you had a negative pre-disposition you couldn't get a spouse!!!
