Ready to go but.....
« on: March 26, 2006, 09:07:38 PM »
I do not know how to start.  I am a convicted felon.  I used my own credit cards to commit fraud with a final goal of suicide.  The attempt failed and I turned myself in.  I served jail time.  I got out and did well for awhile, but started to go down the same path.  I knew that I had to change.  First, I quit paying lip service to my faith and finally gave up everything to Christ.  That was step one.  Second step was reading Molon Labe and other of Boston's books.  I have been wanting to come out to Wyoming since spring of last year, but was sure If I was welcome.
My current situation is this.  Of all the jobs I have held since 2001 (release from jail), none of them knew of my background.  I found out early enough not to acknowledge my past.  The applications that I was honest on, I never heard back from.  My latest job did not do a background check, or if they did, a sloppy one at best.  After an other employee was busted for embezzling, background checks were done company wide.  Needless to say I am currently unemployed.  I have cashed out my 401k and payed the penelties for doing so.  Every fiber in my body is pulling me toward Cook County.  I am single.  I have had a myriad of education via the US Navy and college.  I am a hard worker and all of my employers would be quick to say so.

Would I be accepted among your freedom loving ranks?  I would post on but would probably only ramble.  Please reply all who read.

Hi Wheeler,

Welcome to the site & FSW.

My son got out last year after doing 15 years. He's had 4 jobs and the 3 previous emplorwes knew he had been in. Every one of those employers have told the next he was welcome to come back.
He's now making $18.00 an hour working for Exxon at La Barge WY. and training on trucks and when done training will go to $23.00.

If yer willin ta work, work hard, keep yer nose clean and be a respectable credit to your company and community you'll do well in WY.

I have been busy reading other entries.  Thanks so much for reply.  I cannot wait to contact the newspaper in the morning concerning my moving sale!

Hello Wheeler,

Be honest, be civilized, work hard and those around you will see you as a valuable contributor to society.  Sounds like you were a shady character in the past....but if that has truly been put behind you then I would welcome you.  I am not a FSW member yet but my husband is and we will be in Wyoming by summer's end.

I like how Vin Suprynowicz puts this issue - once you've paid your debt, you've paid your debt. Period.
For example, "ex felons" don't lose their 1st Amendment rights, why should they lose their 2nd?

Glad to hear you've gotten your life back on track - hope to see you in Wyoming!

Appaloosablue,

You hit the nail on the head.  I was a shady character.  I have changed for the good.  I will let my actions speak to that when I git out there.  I am excited to meet you and yours so look me up when you arrive.  I plan to submit my paper work this week and get going within a month or two.

Hey guys,

Where is a good place to fly into?  I am thinking about coming out and securing a job and place to live before I actually moved. Am hoping to stay in Crook County if possible.  Where are airports and who serves them?  How about car rental agencies?

Thanks for all who reply!

I know Gillette has a small airport. Not sure who serves it though. It is in Cambell Co., the county just south of Crook.
Thanks,

There also is a *very* small airport that was just built in Hulett.?

Most likely, if you're wanting to fly and get to Crook, fly into Gillette or Rapid City.? Both are just a short (~1/2 hour) drive away along Beautiful Historic 1-90 ;D.? Well, it has a fast speed limit at least. ;)

Todd,

Everybody has blown it to some degree or another, but the more
important thing there is repentance and change.? You seem to
well understand this.? I appreciate your having admitted this to us,
as it betokens an honest beginning with the FSW and Wyoming.?

Let's use the term "fracture" as a metaphor for your past crimes.
You fractured once, went to prison, got out, and then fractured again.
To some, the second fracture points to a high probability of a third, fourth, etc.
They certainly have a point.? As the old saying goes:

"Burn me once, shame on you.? Burn me twice, shame on me!"

Will you ever fracture again?
That depends on the strength of the repair, of the "epoxy."
Some epoxies are stronger than even the parent material.
Meaning, the piece is likely to break anywhere but the area of repair.

Your first epoxy (sheer will power, apparently) was obviously lacking.
Your second epoxy (strength through Jesus Christ) has held up.

Can you still fracture again there?? Certainly, but not without a lot of work at it.
I.e., you will have to intentionally chip away at the join (by repeatedly giving
into tempting thoughts).

To some people, your past may be too high of a hurdle, and everyone
has a right to their own hurdles.?

Many others, however, will tend to judge you more for the current
you, vs. the past one.?

In short, I agree with Hunter's take on the matter:
Quote
If yer willin ta work, work hard, keep yer nose clean and be a respectable credit to your company and community you'll do well in WY.

The message of the Gospel can be condensed to Forgiveness through Love.
And when God forgives, He forgives in an awesome way:

"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
? ?-- Psalms 103:12 (KJV)

As far as the east is from the west?? That's rather far!
North and south do meet (at the poles), but east and west never meet.

A forgiven man is a changed man, and a changed man acts differently.
The righteous in Christ don't cease their old sins merely because they believe
that they should--they cease because they no longer want to sin as they did.

If this describes you, then the new folks you meet in Wyoming
simply will not be able to see that previous man...who is no longer there.

I sent SOI in yesterday.  Is that a step in becoming a member? Will it change my status from Lurker?  Is there any term we can choose besides it?  I feel like I am a peeping tom or of the like!

Don't sweat the rank (Lurker). It just signifies that you are a registered user of the forum and how many posts you have made. And yes, it will change when Boston gets your SofI.

For more info on the ranks, go here.
Thanks,
The Management
