Another Intro
« on: June 10, 2006, 10:29:29 PM »
I thought I'd make an introduction and explanation of why I'm here. (OK, Mama Liberty; see? I'm doing it.? :D)

I'm an ex-FSPer (no, we don't need to go into that; save that the experience made me leery of formally joining FSW right away even though I support the idea) living in New Hampshire. Frankly, I'd like to head back west, and Mama Liberty is also pushing me to do it. I can afford to move to Wyoming, but I can't afford to move there and live out of pocket while I look for a job. So the main thing holding me back right now is a Wyoming job.

The majority of my job experience and training is as a telecommunications technician- primarily transmission systems, but some time with DMS- and DEX switches (yep, old stuff; some folks still use it), and network operations.

I've also done a fair bit of security work (and that's my current job), in gov and private service.

I also do a bit of basic web design and webmastering. I handled Doing Freedom! e-zine for about a year and a half, JPFO for a few months, and few other smaller sites.

Beyond that, I'm a bit of a jack of all trades- wiring, plumbing, some carpentry; not a super-pro, but well enough for household repairs and small projects.

I'm not absolutely decided on it, but I'm initially considering the Newcastle area because I've had an offer of support in getting settled in there.

I've been warned that rentals are few and far between, but buying a home is out of reach until I build up more cash reserves. If I can find a cheap trailer or RV to park, I've been offered a place to put it. Ohterwise, I'll probably try to find a room to rent.

More personally, I'm single; like shooting, reading, writing. When I have a good kitchen I like cooking and brewing, and I collect recipes. I have a sense of humor but most folks find it a bit twisted. ;)

So...? ? Howdy!

Hi, Boston,

Long time no see.

Like I said, the only thing holding me back is work. Once I've got a job lined up, I'm there.

If I'm not mistaken, that is roughly the line Mark ("dogsofworr" on the forum) is in. You might send him a PM, he may have ideas for you.

Ah, the wonders of competition. We're always happy to take disaffected FSP'ers, especially those who live in NH.  ;)  Some of us (including me) were associated with FSP for a while; you may have seen my "nym" on their forum, "Zxcv".

Miles,

Mama Liberty pointed me at the Jobs section initially. I'm keeping an eye on it.

I've spent a little time in Wyoming. About the only season I haven't experienced there is the dead of winter; but I survived the Arctic Circle and other winter wonderlands, so that shouldn't be an unsumountable obstacle.

I got that impression from his posts. I sent him a PM as soon as I registered on the forum.

I didn't see FSP and FSW as competitors, but as complementary.  I'm afraid I never participated in the FSP forums; my userid kept going invalid, and I stopped trying to get in.

Carl,

You might want to check out Power Resources.  It's a uranium mine where my husband is working.  I don't know what you would like or require for pay but I know that they are looking for workers.  They are in the process of expansion and are building as fast as they can.............................

If you want their specific information PM and I'll send it to you.

BTW, Power Resources mine is not a pit or shaft mine. It's an insitu mine. In other words, they "mine" uranium by pumping a liquid chemical solution down to the mineral bearing strata thereby dissolving the uranium and then suck the solution back up and separate the uranium from solution.
Very cost effective.

Brandy, Hunter,

Mining in any form is one thing I've never done. But if they're paying enough to get me back west, I'll learn. ;)

Brandy and Pete, if they have a website or contact info there may be others who are interested. Might be a good one to post under the jobs thread?  Where is the "mine"? Miles

Carl, There are many employers who will train people, especially in a boom cycle when they are having a hard time finding help. There are many Wyoming employers who are hiring the kids who used to work at the local burger joint in town because there are not enough experienced folks..  Miles

'mine' is located 25 miles east of Casper on I-25 and then 17(?) miles north of Glenrock.

I know for a fact that the Wyoming DOC conservation camp is hiring. As is the State pen in Rawlins and the Honor farm in Riverton, as is the womens center in Lusk. Quick job until you find something more inline with what you actually want to do. Or it could even become your carreer.

I prefer private sector to government service. Corrections? Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, and burned it.

I've been getting so much assistance from FSWers, both here in the forums and behind the scenes, that the only fair thing to do is formally sign up.

I'm sending the form and cash today.

Thanks, folks.

And the ifo I've been getting sounded so good that a woman at my place of work wants to check out Wyoming now. ;D

Carl, I myself took a while to "sign on" to this group and over the last couple of years I have found so many fine people here . Tons of info and tons of help. After attending my first JAM this year I am now fully on board. These are great people.
