Greetings fellow freedom lovers
« on: October 21, 2006, 05:45:32 PM »
Greetings fellow freedom lovers,
I am from North Carolina.  I found this site yesterday from the survival blog site.  I have looked over the FSW website and read quite a bit from the forums.  There are a lot of inspiring stories of people that have moved in the past years to WY.  And it seems like there are more that are planning to move as well.  I like the FSW idea and think its a great one.  I have not read any of BTP's books yet, but from everything I have heard on here and other places I need to get my self a copy of them and start reading.  Ever since about June of this year I have been on a little adventure.  It all started with me looking up information on getting a handgun for personal protection.  Well I have not stoped looking, I have just broadened my search so to speak. I got more interested about personal freedoms, the constitution and the state of out county and the direction it is taking...  I have started preparing my self in the ways that I can, I made my first gun purchase (no one in my family own guns and I have never shot anything before 2 months ago),  I have started a local preparedness/defence group, and I just got my amateur radio licence this week and I am joining my local ARES/RACES group.  However with the current movement of the country I have felt that I need to move to a better location.  Right now I rent part of a small duplex in small (in NC) town (pop 11,000).  I think that all the preparation in the world will only do so much good if you don't have a community of like minded/prepared people around you.  So finding out about the FSW is a breath of fresh air and is something that I am thinking about joining with the intent to move up there as soon as I could.  It looks like there are plenty of jobs up there in Gillette, and a few in sundance.  Property seems to be quite a lot cheaper then in NC for land.  It would be quite a change from the overpopulated area I am in.  I was born and raised in IL and on a farm in the country for 7years of it, so I miss the country and snow.  I am sorta excited about finding this site and thinking about moving to WY.  Now I just have to talk to my wife :).  Anyway, I am here to learn more form everyone here and whats going on.

Samuel

Thanks for the welcome Mac,
I am sorta interested in how many have made the move so far and how many have made a pledge to move.  I will also like to hear how the elections go up there.  Any libertarians running in Crook or Weston co?  I think that as more people move and small changes start to happen that it will make others that are thinking about moving want to take the "plunge" that much more.  Do you have a year planned for moving and how long have you been planning the move?

My own SOI (Statement Of Intent) is Jan '08 (I think). However, my house is now on the market as of 15 days ago and as soon as it sells and closes, I'M MOVING TO WYOMING!

I used to live in CA. The liberals and socialists chased me out.
I thought rural NV was heaven. It was for the 1st year. Now the county commissioners and town board think they are making laws for Marin County, CA (very libera). I can't take it. I'm leaving.

WY has everything I want and what I don't want. Number 1 on that list is a lot of people. The only people I'm interested in associating with are the kind of people on this forum.

Wow so you could be in WY quite soon.  Good to hear!  I just wonder what will happen to all the other states if all the freedom loving people move to WY  :o.  I will be talking to my wife about the SOI as soon as she returns home from a short trip.  I will be eager to hear how you move goes and wish you Gods speed to WY and a good selling price for you house.

Samuel,
There are a good number of women on this forum, many married, and a few like me living alone in Wyoming. I moved here last year from California and I've finally come HOME.

Please encourage your wife to talk to us! Most of us would be glad to talk to her personally in email or PM, and we all hope you will bring her here to visit us as soon as you can. If possible, make plans to join us for the 2007 Jamboree. You'll meet several hundred FSW people, and will see all the beauty and wonder of Wyoming all around you as well.

Please let us know how we can help you!

Welcome NC Minuteman, sounds like you have found the right place. I second all that Mama and Mac have said. Plan to come to the JAm next year and while you are in Wyoming take a tour of some areas of interest.  Miles

First, this will never happen. We'd be thrilled to get 1% of the freedom lovers in this country. That's human nature, I guess. Inertia...

Second, it doesn't matter if those other freedom lovers are in those states or not. They are all going to Hell in a handbasket, either way.

Look to yourself and your family. By many indications, life is going to get precarious pretty soon. You'd better find a place to weather the storm, and help keep the idea of freedom alive, before it gets too bad.

Of course, maybe things won't get so bad after all (I don't really believe that, but it is possible). That is why we'd be happy to get 1% - the others are hoping for the same thing, however unlikely it is.

Hello everyone. I am the wife of NC Minuteman.

I am in school right now for massage therapy, and I am just curious if there is any interest in massage in WY? Would I be able to make any living at massage at all out there? And if so, which parts of WY would be MORE interested in it?  Also, what are the women's thoughts on homeschooling and homebirth?   We had our son at home here in NC, but it is not a very acceptable thing to do here at all.  I am planning on homeschooling our son (who will be 3 in december).

Well, I am just trying to get warmed up on this whole  idea of moving to WY. It doesn't seem like a horrible idea, but I do want to come out for a visit first.

Hope to hear back  soon

Dear Sara,
Welcome!! We're so glad to have you join in the conversation here - and sincerely hope you'll come visit soon as you can.

Homeschooling is quite common here, and most people are not against it, even if they send their own to government school. That said, you can - naturally - run into exceptions anywhere, but I suspect the usual run of folks won't care one way or another.

I don't know much about massage opportunities in Wyoming, but we have a place here in Newcastle that offers it along with all kinds of alternative stiff like Reiki and Zen meditiation. I have no idea if they need any help or not, but you could set up on your own if you wanted to. I doubt there's anything to stop you here, but of course it's something to research.

I'm a retired RN, and now have my own private practice as an EFT therapist, a "Personal Performance Coach" teaching stress management. http://www.emofree.com/newcomer.htm Take a look at this for an introduction to EFT, an energy healing technique based on accupuncture... without the needles!.

The possibilities are almost without limit. All you have to do is GET here. :)

Hello Samuel and Sara,

Welcome to our forum!

Sara, I think you'd do quite well in Wyoming with a massage business.
Especially with us FSWers.  Remember, moving is hard work--producing
sore backs, aching muscles, stressed tendons, etc.

This Wyoming/FSW thing could be your gold mine!   ;D

P.S.  I'm actually not really even kidding all that much.  I'm still sore from
my last move!

Hi Sara and Samuel!  My dh and I moved here from NC in Jan 2005!  Quite a nice change since we lived in Raleigh for almost 10 years.

Sara - we have a therapist here in our little town but I heard she was planning on selling her business/shop.  I could check into it for you if y'all are interested in Park Co.    I'm not sure about the attitudes towards homebirth here but I think it's a wonderful thing!   Check out the section on Education there are a good deal of homeschoolers too.  We homeschooled while in Raleigh also.

Glad you found FSW  ~W~

Hi Sara!
Well, I birthed two of the three girls at home...people freaked! But oh well, maybe things have mellowed out since then (1988, 2001)...CNM's practice in Wyo, but lay-midwifery is against the law :'(...the midwestern mindset is still somewhat in the 50's and 60's, sometimes quaint yet antiquated.

Massage therapy is a booming business here. Sheridan College in Sheridan Wyo has a 2 year massage therapy certificate and there is also a school in Hill City, South Dakota. From what I understand, the licensing test is in CO, so if you get licensed out there, it will most likely be accepted here. If you want more info, PM me and I'll give you some contanct info (real people in the know). Most MT's work in conjunction with physical therapists or day spa's and at resort areas. I'm seeing allot more MT's in rest-homes also. ?Some work from their homes or make house calls. Places...Jackson, Cody, Sheridan, Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette...If you are looking at part-time, any town once you get your shingle out. Alternative medicine/therapies are becoming SO much more mainstream, even here in the wilds of Wyoming!

I homeschool my youngest (13). Wyoming is very homeschool friendly (in most cases/counties). Crook County is totally willing to lend textbooks. Some parents even take their children to the public school for band/choir, science and extra-curricular sports. All a moot point for us, we just live too far away.

hope this helps a little...

onward...
Tamara

;D Thank you all so much for your comments and suggestions. You've ALL been helpful to me, and I look forward to coming back to the forum and learning more about Wyoming.

I do have a question however.. I REALLY enjoy being involved in the community here. And I'm  wondering if the communities that you all are apart of, are they friendly and active together or do they keep more to themselves?  For example here in town I am a board member for our County Arts Council, which celebrates and supports the arts. What kind of community groups are up there? What can I look forward to being a part of?

Please share!

Thank you all once again!
