Hi everyone, I'm Erik and I hail from North Carolina.
I'm currently a senior at Appalachian State University studying Criminal Justice. At one point I wanted to become a police officer. Before I began my real education through books and online forums. It began with Unintended Consequences by John Ross, followed by Boston's Gun Bible, then Molon Labe.
I grew up in a libertarian family. So these three books were readily available to me as my father(Who is a rifleman) owned them. After I began to read them, I started discussing what I read with my dad. My dad is a man of stout faith and principle, unwavering in what is right and what is wrong along with what is necessary. This was when my real education began, to much dismay of my liberal minded professors. I notice immediately that those very same professors did not like being interrupted during lectures to be told that they were wrong and why. It seems debates are not a popular form of education anymore, instead it's one sided liberal propaganda with no free thinking students to argue back.
I recently took a 10 day roadtrip to Wyoming before classes started fall of 2006. I went with my dad, and drove the 25 hours to Wyoming taking turns sleeping and immediatly slept for 12 hours when we arrived in Cheyenne. From Cheyenne we toured the state, going to Rock Springs, then to Jackson through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, on to Cody, Sheridan, through Casper(didn't stop though), and back down to Cheyenne before we headed back to NC.
I don't know if 'Falling in Love' with Wyoming when we went there is right, I think both my dad and I fell in love with Wyoming after reading Molon Labe before we had even set foot in WY.
We both want to move there, my Dad unfortunatly is financially stuck in NC through some land development(His company that I work for in my spare time builds houses). Also my younger brother is in his junior year of High School, and my mother has her own business here as well. I believe once my brother enters college, my father will be able to convince my mother to move to WY and bring both their businesses.
I, luckily, have the priveledge of being young with no geographical obligations. Although that may change once I enter the Marine Corps this fall.
I finish my college up this year, and plan on entering the Marine Corps. After I finish my training, I wanted to come out to WY and find a place.(I'm heading into the Marine Corp Reserves) But more importantly I wanted to lend a hand in 'freeing' a state. I'd love to donate as much time and energy as I can to drawing others to WY and helping them get started. I've had plenty of experience in building houses with the exception of plumbing and electrical work, maybe I could help out with housing.
I'm not sure what I will do when I'm in Marines. I've always had an interest in protecting folks, and felt a calling towards law enforcement and private security(Seriously considered Blackwater after the Marines until I realized what sort of politicans and VIP's I'd be risking my neck for...). Might try for WY law enforcement, couldn't hurt to have Libertarian with strict principles and beliefs in such a position. Especially if I worked my way up.
If not, well, as much as I know about Construction Business - I've no real desire to own my own. I'd prefer to start a Firearms/Camping/Hunting store. Been around firearms all my life, would love to own my own firearms store. (With an indoor and outdoor range!) I've given that a lot of thought and worked up a rough business plan for it.
Any guidance towards WY would be greatly appreciated, I can't wait to move out there and get some WY callouses.
