Forum purpose

(1/1)

Boston:
Dear FSW Forum guests,

Some comments about why we're online here, and what we hope to accomplish.

This Forum is not the FSW itself, but a tool to:
   1) champion Wyoming and the FSW to prospective joiners, and
   2) knit closer together our virtual and actual communities.

It is not a philosophical or political battlefield for those generally wearing the
same uniform, fighting the same enemy of Tyranny.

The FSW's SofI is a very broad umbrella, as you all know.
It covers NRA Republicans and GOA Libertarians alike, and many others.
Hence, there are many sub-issues of Freedom vs. Order that most of us
will never perfectly agree on. Not only is this to be expected, it cannot
ever be otherwise.

We've seen a few flareups along the way, mostly personality conflicts based
on philosophical differences. Such is probably to be occasionally expected
amongst any body of intelligent and passionate people, but they have, IMO,
accumulated to temporarily lower the overall quality of the forum.

For example, our Forum will not dissolve to infighting about whether government employees,
soldiers, and peace officers are fit to join the FSW. If they can sign the SofI in good faith,
then we must take them at their word and meet them where they are. Otherwise, where
will it end:? weeding people out because they availed themselves of a government license?
Got a college student grant? Receive SSI payments?

Rather, we keep it fairly broad, each of us acts within our own respective consciences, and
we generally leave each other in peace.

What I'd like for us all (me included) to concentrate on is not the relentless
and inexhaustible exposition of our sub-branch beliefs within the SofI, but
what we have workably in common because of our SofI.

There will always be a camp of folks who generally believe A, and others B,
yet both under the broad umbrella of the FSW and its SofI.

The distance between A and B is exactly the same distance between B and A.

    A <--> B   =   B <--> A

If B can live with A, then A can live with B.

If anybody has personality conflicts, then just ignore their posts and threads,
which is what you'd do in real life, anyway.

We are going to have to increasingly take that old adage to heart:
"To gain a friend, close an eye. To keep a friend, close an ear as well."

Nobody is ever in 100% agreement with anybody . . . but themselves.
We all believe that our own viewpoint is correct, or the most correct.
(I am surely an archetype of that.)

That's part of being human, but what we can do here is begin not to
be so dogmatic about it, post after post. The SofI merely states a broad synthesis
that we all can agree on. It is easy to discover fissures and then apply chisel and hammer.

But, what is the point of that?
If we can't get along reasonably well here, then why bother becoming Wyoming neighbors?
We're just going to have to learn to get along, regardless of some differences that really
don't matter in the real scheme of things.

Increasingly, we will have to simply "agree to disagree" and let it go at that.

Forum Rule #1:
Have something overwhelmingly:  truthful, usable, helpful, inspiring, encouraging, or friendly to post.
Barring that, don't post.

Cry Bullsh*t! on somebody or something if you must, but while
simultaneously shining a light in a better direction.
In short, every post must be a net positive in some way.

In the FSW, we have a very good and special thing going.
We've all much more in common than not, else we wouldn't be part of the FSW in the first place.
Let's explore our commonalities, and not our differences.

We've come a long way here, and we've lots to be proud of. Many FSWers
have bought property, and/or moved to Wyoming already. The local
friendships being established are what the FSW is really all about.
Such were often begun here, online, before ever meeting in person.

A final comment:
One can participate in the Forum, or leave it, yet still remain a part of the FSW.
The Forum is not the FSW itself.

Warm regards,

Boston
