The wheels are in motion
« on: February 27, 2007, 06:41:05 PM »
First off I'd like to introduce myself, I'm 24 form Virgina and engaged to be married. Ive had a desire to move to a less populated area and live a free life since I can remember. A number of things have combined (Our current situation in VA, Reading BTP's novel, and being generally disappointed with society) to set this dream rolling and we are in the exploration phase right now. From what I've been able to digest, its looking like Crook County would be the best choice for us.  I have millions of questions and it looks like this board has most of the answers. We hope to join you in Summer 2008! :D

Welcome and congratulations!  I'm making the move from PA to WY for many of the same reasons.  I'm hoping to be moved in sometime this summer.  Crook County is a beautiful place, go out and see it!

If you haven't already, check out the real estate links on the FSW website.

All the best,
Ed

Slinger,
Welcome!
Please look at all the info on this forum, especially places to live and jobs. There's a lot there.
Perhaps you could join us for the Jam this summer? That would be awesome.

I too am moving to CC as soon as my house here sells. I've already got land up by Devil's Tower and I can't wait to get back to it to enjoy it.

As mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I suggest you make a true plan, not just a wish to get up to WY. Make a list of the things you must do to be able to move, things you need (like money!), and put them all on a timeline. Then watch your progress!

I'll be there waiting for you!

Howdy slinger 646 glad you found us. Ask any questions you might have, many have been answered on other threads so we might be able to help you get around the forum if you can't find something.  Have your fiance join us with any questions she may have.
Have you guys ever been to wyoming ?

Thanks guys for the welcome, We're going to try to make it out there for the jam, I have a lot of down time with my job so I'm making a short list. We are in a great position now as we just moved from one of the more liberal cities in Virginia to the mountains, we are currently renting a townhouse and don't own a lot of stuff to move. Im currently in the transportation business with aspirations in law enforcement (I'm a member of the reserves, fully sworn) My fiance is in Education (loves to teach, hates the system). Our plan was to stay aonther year at the townhouse then find something here in VA, but Mrs Slinger finally got on board after sing a bunch of things in life Ive already saw, so now its changed to staying another year here in VA and moving to WY in 7/2008. Each of us is willing to go before the other if a job comes up, however we'd like to travel together.

Thanks again for the wonderful welcome!!

Welcome!  ~W~

You sound like just the sort of folks we want and need as neighbors and friends. Make realistic plans and stay flexible. The opportunities are great now, but you may need to adjust your expectations a little once you get on the ground here.

I'll help you all I can. God bless you both. MamaLiberty

Do any airlines have hubs in WY? Cheapest so far is 560 from IAD to Casper, flight + car.

Welcome Slinger!  Mac's advice on making an actual step by step plan is very sound.  If you fail to plan, you can plan to fail.

A lot of people I know in Wyoming fly in/out of Denver(DIA) to avoid a lot of extra expense flying, even with a 4 hour drive from Casper.  Tickets are usually 100-250 less flying into Denver.
However with long security lines, big city hassle, some people prefer to pay the extra money for less hassle.

According to Google maps the drive from Denver to Guernsey is 198 mi (about 3 hours 3 mins) and the drive from Casper to Guernsey is 112 mi (about 1 hour 46 mins)
It seems it may be a lot more economical to fly into Denver.

Best of luck!  Hope to see you at the Jam and in Wyoming!  8)

Slinger, Is that flight directly into Casper or are you going to Denver and then getting on another plane to go from Denver to Casper ? If it goes to Denver anyway you might want to check out the difference in prices as Richard has said. If not, Casper is probobly the closest airport and as a side benefit you would get to see what Casper is all about ,if you have time. Miles

I would highly rec. your flying to DIA and renting a car.
You'll save $200 most likely.

Dear Slinger,

Welcome!

Sovereigns of the High Frontier Society may be ready to start hiring teachers as early as this coming Fall (2007).  Lots of preliminaries to get out of the way, first, though.

One of the real estate projects I'm working on now would involve a very large scale theme park, possibly ten thousand acres or more.  Some serious thought needs to go into security for that site and those facilities, especially given the "Wild West meets Futureworld" theme intended for the park.

Needless to say, the boom times in Wyoming mining and drilling are bringing lots of folks into the state, so there are plenty of job opportunities for teachers and security/law enforcement folks.

I second Boston's expression of logical truth in pricing.  You'll save a bundle flying into Denver and renting a car.  I am making arrangements to pick up two people and return them to the airport.  Others may be able to do similar feats of good will, for a share of the gasoline or other costs.

Boston, I'm going to start a thread on cooperative travel to the jam.

Regards,

Jim

Thanks Guys!! Flying into DIA saves us almost 200 each, the car has unlimited miles as well.  The original flight was from IAD to DIA to CPR, so this is way more economical!
