Hi from Bald Barry
« on: February 23, 2006, 10:04:33 PM »
For now, stuck in Western Washington.
I'm a 58 year old retired (last month) computer systems analyst.
My wife, Sheryl, is a retired dental office manager.
I have been involved in the shooting sports since 1970, conventional pistol competition.
Since then have done metallic silhouette, high power rifle, smallbore rifle, IMSA, hunter's pistol.
Have also done a little IDPA.
Had a sailboat for about 9 years starting in '89.  Covered most of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.  Arthritis and costs brought an end to that.
Been a libertarian and/or hard-ass conservative for as long as I can remember.
A graduate degree in business administration only hardened my resolve.
Ran for Bellevue City Council in 1999 against the big business machine.
Lost 23 to 77%.  A real eye-opening experience.
In 2004 we spent the whole month of June on vacation in Cody, WY.
Our kind of place, our kind of people.
Unfortunately, my mother lives in Seattle and won't come with us to WY.
I'm an only child so I won't leave her behind.
So until something changes, Sheryl and I are stuck here.
But my best wishes are with all of you.

Barry & Sheryl Ross
Bellevue, WA

Howdy Barry and Sheryl,  glad to have you both here. You will just have to plan more vacations to visit Wyoming and bring mom along if she is able. Miles

Well, at least you have something to look forward to. My father wanted to move to NC when I was little. My mother said she would not leave NJ. Finally, after about a year of argueing, he said, "we're moving. You're welcome to come, but we are moving."
So we left. Fixed up a new house, and about a year later, she moved down too. It took her about another year to stop pouting/crying, but she finally let herself like it. She stayed til the day she died and she didn't even like visits to NJ in the end. ;)
I'm not suggesting you do that, but sometimes it works.

That's pretty hard core, to do it to a wife. Looks like it worked, though. My wife would just say "Go ahead, who needs you!" if I tried it.  :D  I had to be a bit more subtle.

Hard to imagine, not wanting to leave New Jersey.  ::)

A parent though, you can't let them run your life. That's supposed to end at age 18 or so. Fran's Dad's method does seem appropriate. Of course, everyone has their own situation to handle...
