Hope you all don't mind me making this my first post.
Bumped into socalserf on another board and he said to come on over.

The 3 California shoots (right now) are: Corona, CA - March 8-9, Piru, CA - Apr 19-20, Ridgecrest, CA - May 3-4.  Details at: http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=1043.0

The are also 3 Wyoming shoots confirmed for 2008: Kemmerer, WY - May 31-June 1, Newcastle, WY - June 7-8, and a weeklong boot camp/shoot combo in Kemmerer, WY - July27 - Aug 3. same web site for details.

Shoots are being added constantly right now as the schedule firms up.  I have been thinking about making the trek to Kemmerer in late July because it has been too long since I have been out to your part of the country!

I guess every state has its nay-sayers. Except perhaps California, which really needs some.

Most of the nay-sayers in California move to somewhere else!!! LOL No sense beating a dead horse. <G>  But maybe we can convince the Wyoming nay-sayers to move to California!!! Works for me. :)

The problem is that more move from California to Wyoming than the reverse, and they bring their autocratic ways with them.

I find it rather peculiar that the determining factor as to whether one is "in Wyoming" is voter registration.
I don't remember whether I've ever been registered to vote in Wyoming, but I know for a fact that I've had a vehicle titled and plated here since 1994, and gotten a drivers license here twice. My Commercial Drivers License has been here since before I even had a trucking job here.
I've had a storage shed in Wyoming since 1989, being the longest term tenant in the facility, through several managers and two owners, at the original rent.
I have been a fervent cheerleader for Wyoming since my time spent here circulating petitions to get Dr. Ron Paul on the ballot as the LP candidate for president in 1987.
So, am I ashamed of Wyoming because I'm ashamed of the uselessness of elections for improving things? Or am I ashamed that all those people who vote could find better things to do with their time, money, and effort?

Some of us that currently reside in Kalifornia are moving out because we don't like it here.

Why in the hell would we want to make another place like the one we don't like??

So, speak for yourself, and feel free not to speak for me or others that you don't know.   >:(
I get real tired of being painted with a statewide brush and badmouthed because of where I happen to reside currently.  >:(

California is a nice place....... if you can over look all the comrads.
(But that gets harder everyday!)

Say Vonu, how is the market for jobs out there for people with CDLs?
When we went past the GIANT coal mines in the Thunder Basin I saw those enermous hauling trucks.
How much experiance is needed for those jobs? And what is the pay?
Thanks

My conclusion has been for some time that "California is a wonderful geographical location, it just sucks as a State."

Dear god, you people crack me up.  SB, way to go.

However, Vonu has a bit of a point though it might offend those leaving Kali.  Keep in mind that a lot of folks are not ideologically compatible with freedom because they either aren't aware that the comrade-ism of Kali is what keeps it as it is and makes it worse each year.  Most of the media bad mouths a "free market" but the market is far from free.  I understand that generalizations offend people, and I think Vonu should clarify his point of view.  At the same time, a lot of people bring their big statism with them without realizing that the outlook they were indoctrinated in is what caused Kalifornia to become a hellish socialist/fascist "whatever the hellistan" you want to call it :)  Dealing with people on an individual basis (except when making observations of large cultural patterns) tends to be a better mindset since it doesn't lump together potential gold, with potential manure.  Keep in mind that both gold and manure are useful.  Its just that manure has to be BURIED in the ground to be useful, while gold has to be dug up!

Still, I read a Daily Press article in Virginia here, just upon my return to find out that a "suspected MS13" gangbanger was "busted" in Williamsburg.  Williamsburg Virginia is one of the heaviest armed cities around despite being a college town.  However, as far as I understand it, once a "suspected MS13" gang member is "busted" its fairly certain that the place is infected with those scumbags.  Unless the locals get sick of cops selling out and clean house on their own, I'm willing to believe only the rural residents won't bend over, especially when the MS13 bastards start recruiting at the local movie theaters in smalltown Virginia.  However, in the big city, I only go for fun, and usually with at least two spare mags in a large caliber :)  Why do I still go?  Why, because I have that adventurer gene that sends me off on crazy quests into dangerous places.  So far, i'm still looking for the dragon's treasure, though.  (Actually I go because the best gunshop in the area is still in Hampton Virginia.  That and my favorite gun range is in the middle of suburbia... still not sure why idiot socialists moved in next to a gun range and now want to close it because "it makes too much noise"... were the gunshots 50 yards from their fence just not as "loud" back when they bought land there?  Was there not enough lead in the water around a 120 year old gun range back when they were shooting plain lead?)  As I've stated, I'm almost done with business in this area, and at that point, there will be little to hold me here.  My family is set, I'm pretty eager to get the hell out, and like others have asked on the board recently... is there good work for a CDL in that area?  How much experience is required for the higher paying jobs?  Mind you I've got almost 3 years on the road and I'm a fairly independent driver with a penchant for preferring good quality equipment and keeping said equipment in the kind of order I like it to be in when issued to me.

The reason I'd ask is simple.  I cannot seem to ever get a response to emails or telephoned requests, either for interviews or anything else...  I make a better impression in person, so I figure I'll have to deal with this when I get myself out there.  In a way I appreciate that people there prefer to settle things on a handshake, but the flakiness bothers me a wee little bit.

14 out of the 90 help wanted ads in today's Gillette News-Record (link here) have "CDL" in them...some with little required experience, several with "apply in person" which is the best way to size somebody up and NOT hire if they don't like the looks of said individual IMHO.

Alas, it does make it tough on out-of-towners....especially given the cost/benefits to the company of on-line ads these days.

Somehow I hope that things in CA will eventually reverse... it is such a beautiful land... despite LA and dozens of other blights

As unlikely as that is already, it will be even less so if the dems in the state legislature get their bill through that would let 17 year olds vote.  They tried it a few years back to lower the age to something like 14 (can't remember exactly) but only giving them a 1/4 vote.  It didn't pass, so they're trying their tried and true tactic: incrementalism.

The more American Idol voters, the better for the collectivists.

I love my state and am very proud of lots of things here and very worried about others. The primary reason I'm involved with FSW is because I hope the folks moving here will embrace the self reliant approach to life Wyoming has always inspired. Yesterday my contacts in the G-spot informed me that Rio Tinto plans to hire nearly 100 new employees this fiscal year, lots of them being haul truck drivers. Yes, the best way to find work here is to show up ready to go. This is still the west.

G-spot... I take it you're referring to Gillette?

I appreciate it, yeah, I plan to take a camper shell on a pickup your way before this upcoming election... I plan to be as far away from the east and west coast as being "earth bound" will allow me.  That being said, I do want a place where I can go home, put cans and bottles on a  fence and pick them off from the rooftop with a 22 :)

Yeah, I know, beggars can't be choosers, but then I'm lucky I'm not a beggar, eh?
