Introducing myself and asking where to go?

Hi all,

Living in the PRK currently.  I'm looking to move to Wyo. within the next 5 years or so and have decided to begin exploring where I want to go.  I'd love to move sooner, but I don't know if it will be possible.  At any rate, this summer I'm planning on making an exploratory trip to actually see Wo.  and check out some of the towns/areas that I think I'd like to live in.  I'm looking for a place where I might be able to buy a business and enough land so that I could step out my back door and go shooting (at least handgun, if not rifle) whenever I pleased.  I'd prefer to not live in a flat, 'barren' area, so to speak, and wind is definitely out of the question.  So, given the above, does anyone have any recommendations as to the places in Wo. that I should check out?

Hi Gary, and welcome.

Please try to come to the "Jam" in late June. That way you will meet a lot of us and we'll get to meet you. Then spend as much time as you can driving around Wyoming. Visit with us in our homes and let us show you the sights. That's the only way to decide what and where is right for you here.

But you'll probably have an easier time if you don't set all your preferences in stone. Figure out what you absolutely MUST have and what you can't live without... then compare even those things to living free and see if some of that isn't standing in the way. You'll be amazed at what you can learn to live with... and live without in order to breathe free.

And, if you are going to move to Wyoming, you will need to come to terms with at least some wind. We don't have a lot here in Newcastle, but when it blows... you'll know about it!!! It's just one of those things you get used to.

Haven't been to Wyoming before, which is why I want to get out there and see it in person.  I have some obligations that I have to meet, which require me to be here in the PRK, before I could move.  Won't keep me from laying the groundwork though.

Darn.  No way I could make it in late June.  I'm free in July and August, but very busy in late June, unless it was just for a weekend that I could fly in for.

My preferences aren't set in stone.  If I can't afford to buy enough land that I could shoot on it without bothering the neighbors, then the next option would be to live close to a good range that I could train at for a reasonable cost.  Wherever I decide to live at in Wyoming, I want to be able to be self-sufficient to the most extent possible.  I'd really like to open or purchase a small business of some sort.  I've been very intrigued with the number of businesses for sale that I've seen posted on the forum.

Some wind, once in a while is okay.  I lived for three years in Soledad, CA.  The wind blows there every day, HARD, for half to three quarters of the day, for 9 months out of the year.  Won't do that again.  Period.
