New guy
« on: April 08, 2009, 10:59:35 PM »

Hello , I have been a lurker for a while.
I like the forum and the people seem very real.
I am a writer and a field editor for "Wilderness Way" magazine and have been now for almost 7 years.
I am a wilderness and urban survival  instructor. My website   http://www.dirttime.com   nothing is for sale there.
Otherwise I am supposed to be retired. Cant do it. Boring.
I am too immature to be this old.
I was a record producer and a music publisher for about uhhh err like 40 years, man thats hard to say... ;D
Check out my website.    http://www.songconsultant.com   In my career I worked with many top acts, lots of country music.

My interest  in all outdoors, shooting, hunting, fishing, trapping, etc saved me from going nutz.
After being in a studio for a few weeks to months at a time, it allowed me to escape to the hills.

I have 3 kids, all grown. My oldest daughter now lives in Gillette, Wyoming. She moved there from Colorado a few years ago.
My other daughter lives on a ranchette, in Pearblossom, Ca.
My son lives in Big Bear, Ca.
All three of my kids are shooters.

I am a moderator on a survival forum, and very active there.

I have been looking to move from my home state, Ca , for some time.
I was born here in Santa Barbara.
 I grew up in Burbank.
The whole of SoCa is ruined, for many reasons. Mostly population that began to explode in the 1940s and never stopped.

So that it , mostly about me. Pretty simple.
I am interested in the Wyoming and have been through the stae a few times.
Will try and see my daughter in Gillette this summer.
At that time I will take a long hard look around.

Welcome! I'm a California escapee and wouldn't go back there for much of anything. Let us know when you are coming so we can visit. We have a campout planned for the third weekend in June. If you can make it to that, you can meet a lot of the folks here.

And it may comfort you to know that many of us are on the far side of 50.  >:D
It's not that people are dumber, it's that stupidity used to be more painful.

 Thanks for the welcomes.
The far side of fifty? yep sure am.
My oldest girl, will be 50, Friday the 10th.

But I was taken advantage of at a very young and tender age ::)

However like my Dad, Im in great shape for my age.
Have always worked out, always ate right. etc.
My mom is 94, and my dad died at 93.
So maybe I have at least 10 or 20 years before I give up the ghost. If I dont get run over by a train or something.
In the meantime , I live everyday as best I can.

Although I am teetering on the edge of geezerhood, I still can outhike, and outwork most half my age.
So if I die out on a trail, or doing anything else I love, it will be okay.

Im interested in many parts of Wyoming.
I dont have to make a living where ever I go, so that is not a concern.
I want like minded folks around me, though.
I am not one to change things they way they are in Ca. Thats why I want out.

I have looked at Idaho, in the past. Has a certain appeal.
Have looked at Montana a few times also.
Never had the time to really explore Wyoming. Yet.

Hmmm, a get together in June? The third weekend in June.... ?
I might be able to make that. I will see what I can do.
My consulting life is very busy. That includes the music and the survival aspects and the writing, etc.
Plus a few other projects. No rest for the wicked, ya know.

I have to get to Gillette to visit my daughter , so this might work out as a good excuse to go around that time frame.
I have a great grand son I have never seen yet.

 Thanks again...

Dirttime,
You say the whole of SoCal is ruined? Quite true, but so is the rest of the CA hellhole. I used to live there.
AWB thruout all of CA. Can't own one of those "black guns".
.50 cal banned throughout all of CA. Thanks to girly man Governator. But at least now everyone is safe. Just too many gang bangers holding up 7/11s with those 50s I guess.
Monster sales taxes, and going up too.
Monster income taxes, and going up too.
State is bankrupt and overrun by illegals and liberals.
Home to Pelosi, Feinstein, and Boxer. Need I say more?

I'd suggest you get out now before they close the border, or create an "exit tax"! Hey, that is perhaps the ONLY tax they haven't thought of yet . . . shhhhhhh.

Mac  >:D

 Max, you have it right.
Did you know that for a while the state of Ca went after folks who retired here, in Ca, after working here most of thier lives , and then moved to another state. This state claimed all the money from their retirement was earned in Ca, so therefore, all of it should continue to be taxed by them. They lost in court , but not before it impacted thousands of ex CA's.

I do know that some places in CA are still great as far beauty goes. So far thats my escape.
But it is still Ca with all the politics. Mostly bad. Let me repeat that... really bad.
Not my cuppa as the say.

Im old enough to recall Ca when it was a very progun, and a good place to live. But that was the 50s and most of the 60s until the 1968 fed gun act, then Ca started a fast down hill slide. My Dad and Mom always blamed it on the people that came from back east, where the gun laws and etc were not so good.
For my Mom back east meant anyone from Arizona and east of there.  ;D
 Again thanks for the welcome.
