Locations, cabins, homes, etc

 I have spent some time looking through the fourm and learning some things about this site. Very cool.
 
 I have been looking at properties in Wyoming, I know by computer is not the best but it still gives me an idea.

 A few years ago, now, while traveling in my motorhome, I stayed in Wheatland, Wyoming for about a week.

 They have a city park there, free water, free electric, and a dump station.
It was also free to stay for up to 2 weeks at a time.
 The place was very clean and kept up. We were impressed.

  I tow a small car, a 4x4 , 4 door Tracker, that gets 32 miles a gal. That makes up for the motorhomes 9 miles to the gal.
  We took off everyday and toured around up and down roads in every direction.
  My Akita takes up the back seat, we took up the front seats, the picnick stuff went in the back storage , behind the seats.
  This way you get the lay of the land pretty fast.

 The town of Wheatland was very clean, nice and had everything you might need.
 They even had a movie theater, but I think it was only open two nights a week or some such. Thats enough anyway.
 The local market we shopped at was very good. 

 What Im looking for is nothing fancy, maybe a glorified cabin/home, remote, but not so that it would  scare my evil other half.
 I need a garage, some kind of out building(s).
 At least a min of 2 bedrooms, 3 would be better. Water is a concern in many locations from what can see.

 She doesnt scare easy. But we are "older" and getting help, as in if we get sick, might be a consideration.
 However , we are both in excellent health, and exercise , eat the right stuff, except for once in a while. No one is perfect...

 I would like more than a "lot", an acre or so, or more, would do it.
 I have grown my own garden for over 40 years. But would have to adjust to the colder and shorter growing season.
 I use the square foot  raised beds, method of gardening.
 I have dogs. Might breed some there also.
 Chickens are good to raise.

 Any suggestions from you Wyoming residents, would be very cool. I am open to ideas.

Wheatland is a nice area, lots of agriculture. A couple of nice lakes just up the road a bit too.
Are you finding anything on the net that looks good to you?

 Wyomiles, Not really finding anything that makes me sit up, but it is hard to tell sometimes by a a few photos.
 Much depends on the surrounding area.. ....

 Not to confuse folks, but Im not looking so much in the Wheatland area , I just wanted to mention that we stayed there, liked the town. If something popped up there , then thats okay ...
 Im open to what folks might suggest.
 Some hills, mountains , etc are nice. Lakes, creeks, etc. But I like high ground when around water.
 Lived in a canyon, next to a creek , in the Angeles National forest for 35 years , hmmmm maybe longer.
 That creek was always a worry, every winter. Summer, the fires were the thing.

 But the location otherwise was great for being in the L.A area.
 My kids never realized they grew up in L.A.
 The backyard went straight to the forest.
  The house was great, like a huge cabin.

 Anyway, Whatever I get will most likely be my last stand.
 Wont move again until they throw me kicking and screaming into a "home" , my Dad called them the "victim" retirement prisons.
 I hope to delay that condition for a long time.  , if Im lucky I will die on the trail somewhere doing what I love to do.

Wheatland is a pretty nice town and the view can be pretty good but just so you know the other side of the coin heres some things that ive found out about Wheatland.  The city does not plow the streets in the winter....ever.  They do this because most of the time Wheatland doesnt see alot of snowfall so they figure they can get away with it, and lots of times they can but it can get pretty ridiculous.  Can you guess why they dont get alot of snow?  Wind.  Click HERE to check out a wind resource map of Wyoming.  Pretty much all of Platte county is blue.....thats good if your into wind turbines.

Power Plant.  While this is not a completely bad thing in my opinion because I work for the company that owns Laramie River Station it can be trying on the residences of Wheatland during any outage.  Once a year Basin (the owner of the plant) shuts down on unit on the plant and brings in hundreds of workers...lots of which being questionable on whether their legal.  Either way the huge influx of people brings some business but it brings drunks, drugs, illegals, and traffic. 

I personally dont live in Wheatland but my work takes me their at least a good month out of the year and those are some of the bad things that ive seen.  There are just as many good to go with them that youve already seen though.  If I might make a suggestion though, If I was looking for my last stand Id put some mountains at my back.  Sheridan, Buffalo, Cody, Sundance, Newcastle, or if you like people as much as I do Boundrant.

 I have been through there, but I think we only stopped to eat.

 I mentioned Wheatland because we just happened to land there for a week on a sevral month tour we were into at the time.
 But just that little bit of info you supplied , if Wheatland were in the running, would knock them out as a contender. Thankyou.

 I have done a search for homes in Newcastle , so I want to check out that area as well.
 I will look into the other places you have mentioned.

I always wondered if it wouldn't work, to find a farmer or rancher where you could park a motor home on his place, in return for some services such as mechanic work or fixing fences or computer work. One could move from place to place and get a lot of connections fast that way. Probably a fantasy but if you are already set up that way, maybe worth a try. Once you get started and have a decent reputation, it might get a lot easier. Also good for preserving privacy from TPTB.
