We made it to Wyoming, and we LOVE it!

I can only post quick update (I'm at a copy shop, paying to use my laptop) until Wednesday (when DSL gets hooked up at our house) but wanted to say we made it.

It was quite an "Adventure in moving" from Los Angeles (more like three days of nervous hell, with very little sleep, in ghetto hotels, the only ones that will let you have cats AND smoke).

Driving big truck (wife did most of the driving) was scary, cats were traumatized by the move, they're recovering nicely. We love our new place, the cats love it, and our neighbors are all nice and gun friendly.

It's BEAUTIFUL in Casper. We're loving living here already.

And the line at the DMV took 20 minutes in and out, with no appointment, to get Wyoming licenses (though a few long-time residents were complaining "it doesn't usually take this long!"). And it was mellow, no one raised their voice, and the line was us sitting in CHAIRS. How sweet!

In Los Angeles, it takes a minimum of an hour and a half to do anything at the DMV, with an appointment, and it usually feels like a fist fight is going to break out.

When in Rome:
We bought a DSA FAL our second day here. Yay!

Here's DJ with what we drove here in:

Me kissing the ground in Wyoming just over the border (and a big blue beast swooping down to eat me.)

Hi, Kids!
Welcome home!
Now I have another reason to ride over to Casper!

Congratulations Mike and Debra! Enjoy.
give me a head up on the climate now and then as the days unfold. Does Casper feel very big at 50,000 pop or do you feel like you are in a community in your area?

MWD,
My heart goes out to you for having to wait in a line. That's what you get in a "big" city in WY!
At the Sundance DMV I've never seen a "line". Maybe one person being helped, often you walk right up.

Appointments? Yeah, I remember those old days a long time time ago. Smog checks too!

Glad you two are here. Be sure to look me up if you have a chance to return to Crook County.

@Boston
Cool...maybe you would like a section for some of your books?  I'd like to get others germane to WYO and liberty, like Mark's Neither Predator Nor Prey, and make a nice liberty book section.  Suggestions are welcomed.

Yeah, I'll get more active on this forum now.  After getting moved and slightly unpacked (still digging out boxes four years later), getting our shop more towards something we can be proud of--err, uhmm, well, at least not SO embarrassed by, peeling years of bandaids and fixing associated disrepair from these historical buildings, and the incredible amount of energy and folks around during the whole Paul campaign...after all that, I'm starting to get some free time for FSW again.  Oh yeah, also after I have earned the respect of those I want around, and figured out who the statists are, I now don't care so much about who knows I hang around the FSW movement.  These 'greenies' have made it through 4 winters, so some jerks mean absolutely nothing to us at this point.  The best thing is, this experience has brought me and my wife closer together!

  thermopolinian, I live in Riverton and we come to Thermopolis all the time. The next time we are there we will stop and say hi. Semper Fi.

@snakehawk
Cool!  We like the political climate over there in Fremont county, and Lander specifically.  Senator Cale Case is pretty cool, and he is collecting a group of Liberty-minded folks around him.  I'll go find the interview he recently did with K2, and the journalist is a Pauler, to boot! ~W~  Real quick, Cale was talking about the evils of the Economic Development scam being run on citizens by those orbiting around local governments with the help of the state thieves.  And we just killed big time (81% nay) a new tax our local rep was trying to foist on us to benefit the local quasi-governmental EDC.  But they, with her help of course, have already pissed away over $3 million on their very ill-concieved 'business park'. >:(

Oh yeah.  Are you going to make it to the LibertyFest over on the outskirts of Lander, snakehawk?

Lander and Riverton sound ok too...
Probably lots of suitable areas with climates better than Park City, Ut...and many worse of course.
We live where it's VERY windy, not even fun walking on a warm day, have to drive somewhere not windy to enjoy a hike, bummer...here that is.
