Wonderful! Now you can stop lurking in the library! LOL

How are the kitties coping?
It's not that people are dumber, it's that stupidity used to be more painful.

Kitties finally quit hiding a few days ago. They're all better, and love that we have more windows, and more space to hide, and more birds outside the windows!

I posted my pet travel trips here, if anyone wants thoughts on that:

Welcome Home!

Wyoming is the best kept secret for those who are willing to not be so pampered.  If you get out this way or think you are coming the way let us know.  We are always up to providing a home cooked meal of antelope or deer or elk.

Hope no one here gets sick of my "man, things are different in Casper from Los Angeles", even though they're all "It's better in Wyoming" not "well, back HOME we did things differently (better)" like I imagine some ex-pats from Kali say. I just point them out because I'm astonished we didn't move here years ago.

One is people driving ATVs on the street. I dig that. In Nanny-Fornia, that would be illegal, so is riding anything without a helmet. (And having your dog on the back, as I've seen, would be a third charge on your ticket.)

Another thing is people speaking their mind. While it can get a little disorienting to know the entire medical history of someone you just met (and their family), I'm amazed how much people offer about themselves and their thoughts. I already know more about my neighbors in a week (and I like my neighbors more) than I knew about my neighbors of years in Nanny-Fornia. People here ain't pushy, they're just friendly and want to tell you about themselves. And don't seem to be fishing to know much back. Maybe they are, but if I only tell what I'm comfortable with, no one seems to care.

And FALs at sporting goods stores! ? I can't believe the guns for sale here.  :o  :D  ~W~ Not just at gun stores, but at basketball & fishing stores! I previously somehow thought that battle rifles was something favored by y'all only. Man...I didn't know joe six pack gets 'em to hunt antelope too!

We were astonished when we went to get insurance and the insurance lady had this conversation with us:

Insurance lady: "So which one of you will be the primary name on the account?"
Me: (without asking my wife.) "That will be me."
Insurance lady: "That's great. I think it's so sad these days that more men don't take the lead in a marriage. It's part of what's wrong with the world....."

She talked for about three uninterrupted minutes about women's place as an equal but support to the man. She quoted the Bible. She talked about sisification destroying all that is good, about the good ole days, etc.

I just nodded my head. I agreed with most of what she was saying, but couldn't say much, I was a little too in shock, in a good way.

In California, she would be fired for saying all that....because it would be contrary to her employer's opinions, or possibly even a violation of state law. I dug it. She was saying it within earshot of her boss, 15 feet away through an open door. And she wasn't whispering.

It's nice to live in America again. I'm 45 now and I haven't lived in America since I was 18.

Well, now that you are the local california expat you could always try to freak out the locals.
...
Make sure to nag at least one grocer about an organic produce item they don't stock and have
never heard of,
...
And of course you have to make a few horrible attempts to fit in.

What the hell are you talking about?!  Why are you suggesting that a newcomer deliberately act like a dick?!

Michael and Jean have repetitively indicated that they will fit in fine.  In countless ways.  Why the HELL! are you suggesting otherwise?!

I strongly suggest that you IMMEDIATELY apologize for your unacceptable and obnoxious insinuations.

Make sure to nag at least one grocer about an organic produce item they don't stock and have
never heard of, tell a very offcolor mormon joke in front of mixed company, and complain
about the fact that there are no good armenian places to eat anywhere.  ;D

That's hi-larious!

Then of course you'll no doubt be invited/dragged kicking and screaming to any number of church
related pot lucks. Make sure to bring something that just screams that you've been in california
too long.

Or say something that just screams that I've been in California too long. Like "Thank you, but I'll pass. I don't need church. God is in my heart and I carry my church with me."
?

Finally, the cowboy hats. Resist the temptation for at least two months until you know the difference
between the outdoor wear variety, and the square dance variety.   ::)

Debra Jean loves wearing her Appleseed shirt to WalMart. And we have been there at least once a day for a week while gettin' the new house into shape.

She's been in a WalMart before, but never done a cartfull of shopping at one. She's a little blown away at how cheap and good stuff is. We love WalMart. Never thought I'd say that.

Anyone who thinks the economy is not doing well has not been at either of the two (!) WalMarts in Casper. They're both hopping, 24/7.

give me a head up on the climate now and then as the days unfold. Does Casper feel very big at 50,000 pop or do you feel like you are in a community in your area?
springtime06

It feels small. But big enough to have stores and such that we like. I only have my preliminary report, only been here a week, but feels like a community more than most places I've lived. (Though me and the wife are a "nation of two", and don't have a huge social calender, by choice, but it's nice to know our neighbors' names, and be chatty with them.)

I grew up in a town of 3000 in Upstate New York. It was America.

Later lived in Washington DC, Arlington Virginia, Charlottesville Virginia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Agoura Hills, CA. (where we were before we moved to Casper.)

DC, San Fran and Los Angeles are huge and leftist. Arlington is pretty, and has a small-town feel in places, but it's a statist bedroom community for the CIA and the Pentagon. Charlottesville should feel like America, it was the home of Thomas Jefferson, but the UVA college influence makes it liberal. Agoura Hills, CA has "only" 18,000 people, but it's in the shadow of Los Angeles, and even though it has coyotes and rattlesnakes and bunnies, it feels like Los Angeles politically. Obama bumper stickers everywhere, and neighbors who gave us dirty looks when we loaded our long guns into the car.

My dad tells me that our little town in Upstate New York is falling under the political spell of the New York State legislature now, and feels less and less like America.

So it's good to finally be home, in Wyoming, in America.

My gosh, Michael and Debra, you are blowing me away. Wyoming sounds so wonderful I don't know if I'll even notice the weather when I get there!
springtime06
Hey, Mama Liberty, if you are on here, you are right Las Vegas is too hot for an aging body just like Park City is too cold....it's 112 during the day and I have to walk early morning to get more than 30 minutes in. Guess my love for HEAT is no more, that kind of heat, anyway. When I first go out in the a.m. though it feels lovely to be warm through and through!
