border jumping
« on: November 18, 2009, 02:07:55 AM »
I'm currently a mining engineering student at South Dakota School of Mines, and recently toured the NARM facilities. I could definitely see myself working there, and even better that it's in Wyoming. Are there going to be any upcoming opportunities to meet people in the FSW community this winter, or is it pretty quiet until next summer? Our summer internships are a big deal, so I'm worried I won't be able to make it to any events.

Welcome to the forum! There is a good bunch of FSW folks here in the NE corner of Wyoming, and I'm sure we could get a group together to meet with you any time. I'm in Newcastle, just about 12 miles from the SD border.

Let us know when you would be able to come visit, and I'll see about gathering the clan. Most of the folks will be busy this coming weekend, but almost any other time would be good. :)

Good choice of school and program

I made it to sundance for a shoot when I was still in rapid, totally worth the drive. There are more events in the summer, but mining internships aren't THAT hectic that you can't make it away for a weekend. NARM has GPS on pretty much everything, and laser scanners to cover everything else. If there aren't stakes to pound and spoil piles to hike.. I don't know what an intern would do anyways.. :D
There's plenty of mining here, and most everyone is still hiring. If the PRB isn't playing out, there's coal, trona (Sweetwater Co.), and uranium in other parts of the state. There's also some mines over the border in montana, close enough to where you could live in Sheridan.

Thanks for the support, and YES I would love to get together and meet some of the gang. I'm free this weekend after Thanksgiving, which works even better because my wife is in town. It's really short notice, and I know that means its probably impossible to get something going, but if anyone has any quick ideas, I'd definitely consider them. I didn't respond sooner, because I thought replies would get sent to my e-mail, which they weren't, need to check my settings.

Also, I hope to be able to make the Appleseed shoot, though its been a while since I fired a rifle, and that's the weekend right before finals.

So throw me some ideas if you have them! I can't wait to meet everyone.

Bryce

P.S. - thanks Craig for your support, it would be great to work with you sometime in the near future.

Bryce, we'll be doing some shooting at the Sundance range at 10a this Sunday if that works for you.  Depending on how the next couple days shake out I might have to cut out to fill my last deer tag that afternoon, but if not then we could probably do lunch after.

Jared, that would be great, I can do Sundance Sunday morning. Get me some contact info, or a place where we can meet you, and we'll be there. My wife is catching a plane Sunday night, so I can't do an afternoon hunt, which is too bad. I'll be in touch as soon as you get back to me.
