Considering WY as a New Home
« on: May 23, 2006, 02:10:32 PM »
Well guys, I am considering Wyoming as my new home.

I am currently a Slave in the People's Republik of Neu Jerzei. (Where Property tax costs more than the mortgage payments) I am only 22 yrs old (23 on July 2nd), and am currently applying for an FID (Firearms ID Card) so I can have a rifle.

I may, however, soon be free. I may come accross a large sum of money (legally dont worry) soon (neighborhood 100k-200k) very soon. This money, obviously, can be used to purchase a decent piece of property in that fair state of Wyoming.

I dunno what that money can purchase, Hopefully alot. I hope Property taxes are negligable.

I do, however, have some other questions.

What is the Job Market like in Wyoming?
Are there good colleges in the area? By Good, I mean, non-socialist nor anti-Christian.
Are there alot of Churches there?

(I currently work as a full time Security Officer for $11 an hour, goto college full time, studying History and Political Science, and still live with my mother. I am currently saving up money for my first rifle, and waiting on my FID permit to come back to me. My first rifle will most likely be, a Springfield Armory M1A, STG-58, or the new upcoming Rock River Arms LAR-10 .308 rifle.)

Come on out.? The people and land are great!

A few answers.
? The job market is great for tradespeople and clerical.? With a job history in security, you should be able to find a job in a week.
? There is only one 4 year college in the state - the Univ of Wyoming in Laramie.
? Yes there are plenty of churches, but it's not like the Bible belt where many social relationships revolve around churches.

Look through the many similar posts and responses in the archives of this forum for more detail.? There's a lot of information here.

Chill answered most of your questions, but let me add....

I moved here to Wyoming back in '96, from where you ask??? New Jersey!!!  I have never regretted it, and now every time I return to the "Garden State" to visit friends I am beset by migraines of too many people, bad attitudes, dirty air, etc....

Feel free to IM me to ask any questions you may have, one Joisey man to another...

Patriot AR15, Welcome, come on out!   There are several threads here with lots of info. I have been trying to keep a jobs thread going and I will now keep an eye out for security. ( http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?topic=2167.0 ) There are lots of things going on in Wyo. now and if you have ever thought of crossing over into other trades it might be a good time. I know in Pinedale there are jobs in the gas feilds for anyone with half a brain and a strong back. Once you get in the door in the gas fields it opens other doors to better jobs. Build a resume by trying other things and make yourself more valuable and flexable.   Miles

If you can't find a job in Wyoming, you just don't want a job.

Re: Property Taxes, I just received this from the Crook County Assessor's office:

2007 NOTICE OF ASSESSMENT
Vacant Land: 48.5 acres
Fair Value (market value): $58,200 (this is waaaaay below what I paid for this in December, 2006 . . . . I guess that's a good thing)
Level of Assessment: 9.5% (they multiply the "fair value" by 9.5% for some reason)
Assessed Valuation: $5,529 (the product of the previous two figures)
Estimated Tax Using Previous Year's Levy: $335 (they multiply the "mil levy" times the Assessed valuation to get the tax).

This year's mil levy might be slightly different than last year's, but will probably be the same.

Bottom line: The tax for a nice chunk of timbered (ponderosa pine, aspen, oak) mountain land, with a view of Devil's Tower, with a small creek running thru it, and bordering Forest Service land, with turkey, deer, and possibly elk, is a "mere" $335 per year.

Adding a well, septic, and house to the land will certainly increase its value and therefore it's taxes, but since there are NO building inspections required in Crook County, NO building codes in Crook County, NO building permits required in Crook County, and NO zoning in Crook County, who would know if you put a modest cabin or even a home up in the trees? Or an RV????? I won't tell if you won't!

Ya my deal is about half of what it was last year.  I'm glad this new assessor that just got elected in November is taking action on complaints about the assessor she replaced.

Patriot, welcome aboard. You should consider coming to the FSW Jam in june. Get your fees in NOW! There are plenty of churches of all persuasions here however we do not yet have our own Synagogue or Rabbi. There were 3.8 female students to 2 males on the campus of the Uof W last semester. The economy is booming. SHOW UP! B
