Hello
« on: September 22, 2006, 11:23:56 PM »
I've been lurking on this board for some time now and wanted to introduce myself.? Came across the FSW site through reading BGB and Molon Labe (left a review on Amazon of the latter).? It's taken me some years to realize I'm libertarian in outlook so have been intrigued by the FSW concept and the good folks who seem to populate this board.? Freedom, liberty and the right of folks to live as they please are important to me as they seem to be to all of you.? Seems to me neither major political party does more than pay lip service to real freedom and it's necessary that folks of like mind come together to create communities where liberty is one of the highest values.? There's a very real difference between the mindset that we are born with the freedom to speak as we please, associate with whom we please, defend ourselves against aggressors foreign and domestic, use our property as we please and the mindset that believes governement grants us whatever rights we may enjoy.

My wife and I are hoping we can get out to Wyoming next summer to look around.? I work for a large aerospace company in the Pacific Northwest and they recently told me they would consider allowing me to work virtually from another state as long as they have high speed internet access.? This is likely a year or two from fruition but is a real possibility.

We both like to shoot, FAL, Baretta 96, Savage 110 in 7mm and so on.? I'm working on my rifleman skills and hope to scope that latter rifle in a Shepherd some time this year.? Also enoy reading Vin Suprynowicz, Rothbard, James Wesley Rawles, John Ross, and of course Boston.? I won't go into much more detail and bore everyone, but wanted to introduce my family and maybe participate more in these discussions.

Howdy SteveM, Glad to hear from you and hope to hear more. We have several members in Wyoming who know a lot about these computers and internet access so if you have questions about working on line in Wyoming be sure to ask. Keep your eyes open for the announcement of next summers get together or "JAM" and hopefully we will see you there. You might see if your wife is interested in joining in our discussions also ?   Miles

Howdy SteveM-

Welcome, I don't know exactly what speed you need, but our sat dish usu. gets about 500kbps.  Not lightning, but better than the dial-up we used to tolerate. :D  Hope to see you in Wyoming!

Welcome Steve!

It's nice to see someone else show up with an interest in WY and trying to maintain (and expand) our freedom.

I've read all of the authors you mention, and my wife and I both enjoy shooting too, although she hasn't had the opportunity to do so very much in the last couple of years. We've got 2 young ones (19 months, and 6 weeks!) So it's been hard for her to get much shooting time in, either carrying one or recovering from delivery!

In any case, this is a great and supportive group, and there's a lot of helpful info all around. If you can't find something, just ask and you'll likely get at least 3 good answers!

Thanks for the welcome.? We're hoping to get out to take a look at Crook County, maybe Hot Springs as well and any other areas folks here might suggest.? Would be nice to meet some of the folks that post regularyly here.? The kids are all grown now, my youngest graduated high school last June.? She may come as well since horses are her passion, though she's convinced there isn't a single English riding stable in the entire state.

Hi, Steve, glad to see you here!

Thanks for ML review, and for joining our forum.
You and your family sound like our kind of folks!
Your telecommuting opportunity is ideal for FSWdom.

If there's no English riding stable yet in Wyoming, tell your daughter
that she could create the first one!

We'd love to meet you all, so come out for a visit when you can.

Although it may not have as much English as she would like ?

And there is a store in Laramie that sells English stuff. Might want to Email them and get the inside scoop ?

Thanks Miles, I passed the info along.  I like Boston's idea of her starting her own stable - that's her dream anyway.  She's working on me to learn to ride western, tells me it's a useful skill if we move to Wyoming.  Seems like it might be a good survival skill as well as just something enjoyable.

We just got hooked into the TCTWest wifi "cloud" that gives just over 1MB/sec where we are, at the very edge of the cloud (apparently faster in better locations). My wife was walking around with a smile on her face the last couple of days, after suffering with 20k dialup. She reports VPN works just fine with it, which probably will be of interest to you. They operate in the Big Horn basin, apparently - don't know if their area includes Thermopolis. Others can tell you the situation for Crook/Weston counties...

Satellite is also an option, but it is slower, more expensive, and VPN is a joke with it, if it is offered at all.
