Where in WY should I visit?
« on: July 28, 2007, 07:08:06 PM »
I'll be taking some holidays in August and will be traveling thru Wyoming for about a week. This will be my first trip to the Cowboy State and I want to make the most of it. I'll be driving thru a good chunk of the state, and stopping in Gillette, Casper, Cody, and maybe Cheyenne (if there's time).  Any advice on what I should check out during my trip?

Besides all the touristy places, I'd like to stop at a few police detachments to see who's hiring. As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm planning on a career as a peace officer, and I'll be trying to get a feel for Wyoming police forces while I'm down there. Maybe drop off a few resumes and talk to some people.

So if anyone can think of some great places for me to check out I'd appreciate it!

CZ Man.

The Buffalo PD is hiring.  There was an article in their newspaper a couple of weeks ago about how there are having a hard time filling positions.  Pay starts at $2800/month with bennies.

Thanks Prairie Fire,
Well, I've had a slight change in plans. I'll be going thru Cheyenne, Casper, Cody, and Jackson. I figure that will show me a good deal of the state, and allow me to check up on several police agencies during the trip. I'll be stopping in the Winchester museum in Cody, I've heard thats a pretty cool. Any other suggestions? Or police forces to check out?

CZ,

Welcome. The place I'd most recommend for anyone to visit is The Sinks in Sinks Canyon State Park; it's a breath- taking mountain river that runs into a cavern and is underground for about 1/4 a mile. The entrance to the cavern is accessible by foot (though you have to be careful, lots of slippery rocks and rushing water), and no photograph could ever do it justice.

Here's the site for it:

CZ,
The Buffalo Bill Cody museum. For one fee you gain admittance to 5 (I think) individual museums. Plan on spending most of the day there! It's HUGE! Fortunately, it hasn't gone the PC route. No mention of guns in crime. No mention of the Second Amendment. Just guns as mechanical devices.

Where you should visit is determined by your purpose. Sightseeing? See Yellowstone. Looking for jobs? Guess you'll have to visit the larger cities and towns. Looking to meet some Freestaters? We're all over! Don't forget to come up to Crook County. There's some beautiful scenery up here as well.

Uh, I beg to differ. Last time I was there they had a sign in the lobby saying "no guns allowed"!  >:( ::)

I don't know if that is still there; I haven't gotten over my anger enough to visit again. The idiots!

I'll be stopping in Yellowstone to see Old Faithful (gotta check it out at least once), and I was planning on stopping in the Cody museum. This trip is going to allow me to do a little sight seeing, as well as look for career opportunities in the bigger cities. Should be fun.

Any really good gun stores I should check out?
