Introducing Myself
« on: August 02, 2007, 03:02:37 PM »
Hi!  I just found this forum.  I'm from Texas... but my family used to vacation in Wyoming when I was younger.   Something about it always made me wish I could live there.  It has been little more than a long-forgotten dream until now.  I am thrilled to see that this opportunity exists and look forward to getting to know more about this.

Welcome indeed! Lots to read on this forum and you'll get to know a bit about many of us that way, but don't be shy about asking questions. Anyone is always free to PM or email me. I'd love to talk to you about Wyoming.

Hello Texaschristian,
Welcome to the forum.  I'm just across the line in Arkansaw, but headed to Wyoming, hopefully sooner than later

Hello there. I am seriously planning to move to Wyoming. Currently I reside in S. California. I've been told it will be  TOTAL culture shock but a beautiful one. Cody area is where I'm concentrating on. Please share some insight on the area. Does it snow alot there? I'm looking to move asap! Look forward to hearing from you. Diane

Hello Diane! Welcome!  I ESCAPED from S. Calif. almost two years ago now, and wouldn't go back for anything.

Personally, I didn't find the move any kind of "culture shock" because I was never part of the California "culture" to start with, so that may be a real consideration.

If you really, really like the city life, or that kind of entertainment, you'll find Wyoming vastly different, of course. We don't have cities like that anywhere, and entertainment in the rural areas goes more toward the rodeo and farmer's market type things. But even small towns have movie theaters and often support volunteer groups who put on good plays, music events and a lot of other things... just not going to be world class most of the time.

What you WILL find here are neighbors who are happy to really get to know you - and will offer help, perfect strangers who wave and smile as you walk or drive along, gentlemen who open doors and call you "ma'am," almost no crime or "panhandlers," polite and helpful store clerks and businesses, clean air and pure water, vast mountains and plains of incredible beauty, day and night... I could go on for an hour.

I don't know anything about Cody, but I'll be glad to tell you all about Newcastle in Weston county. See my Wyoming blog here for photos and stories of my adventures. http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswblogs/mamaliberty/?cat=12

Come see. Come visit. PM if you want to ask questions - or ask them here. We'd love to get to know you! MamaLiberty

Are you a shooter? You'll fit right in, if so.  :)

Cody's fine, I live there. The ladies seem to like it. Mama is right, Wyoming is a bit old-fashioned and not "stylish" as Californians are used to, although there is a western style of course. Not much snow but the winter winds can get evil in Cody. I never understand why it matters that much as you spend 99+% of your winter time inside anyway.

Visit, check it out, see what you think.

Hi Texas Christian, I just found this site and "organization" myself.  I grew up in Midland and lived most of my adult life in Austin.  But I have lived in Midland, Austin, Alpine, Tyler, San Marcos and San Antonio, so I think I can fit in with just about any kind of Texian consciousness.  Unfortunately, in my opinion, alot of what I see today in Texas is brain-washed people supporting the current President and his Gang.  I am ashamed that George is from Midland.  I live today in eastern Washington state, Spokane, and have not lived in Texas for many years.  Was back there in July though, in Tyler, to visit my ill mother, who is 85.  I got a good whiff of Texas as it is today, then.  Not good in my opinion.  Everyone seemed to be driving huge SUVs.  Weird.  Anyway that's my 2 centavos for now, Electrum!
