Benefits of being a member
« on: October 09, 2007, 03:37:29 PM »
Hello,

I have been browsing this forum and becoming more serious about a move to Wyoming. On my way home from work today I was thinking that I probably should join the FSW officially with the $25 and the application. I remember in the book that actual membership entitled one to special access to info on Wyoming, group events, etc.....I THOUGHT I remembered reading on this site before that membership gave you access to various other sections of the forum. However, I came home today and hopped on the site and I cant find ANY description of the benefits of actually joining, can anyone outline them for me?

Also, I see a reference to Boston's Blog, but it seems it hasnt been updated in a long time, as do other parts of the site. Is this a movement that is dying, or is it still going strong?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Welcome - I had the same questions as you while I lurked around here for a while before seeing FSW as the opportunity it represents for freedom loving individuals. I will not speak for anyone but myself so take it with a grain of salt... (take it with some taters & a steak too!)

I personally held off "joining" until I had met some of the FSW'rs at this years Jam in June. I wasn't willing to lend my name to just anyone & wanted to get a more concrete sense of who was a part of FSW. It's hard to get a feel for people online - I had to observe & listen to what the people did & said just in case it wasn't what I hoped it was: a group of diverse (egad! I used THAT word!) people who believe in LIBERTY & have a common cause in pursuit of that liberty. I met people from the left, the right & 'none of the above'. My overall impression? -  I mailed my SofI from Guernsey on the way out of town from the Jam.  ;D

A lot of effort goes into the organizing & planning of the yearly Jams & --my understanding-- is that the FRN's help to defray some of the expenses as well as "committing" a person to their word that they do intend to move to Wyoming. A lotta people "talk the talk"... the FRN's are just a signal that the individual sending them also "walks the walk".

Take all that as my own personal opinion & NOT as a reflection of any official positions.

See ya at the next Jam!
If it ain't broke; DON'T fix it. This includes Wyoming.

535    thieves in Congress each stealing 1FRN from you.
1    thief promises to "bring home" 60% of your 1FRN.
----   -- ---------------------
534.4 FRN in their pocket - .60 in yours. Explain how that's a good deal again.

KR, I suspect you were looking at this site: http://www.freestatewyoming.org/ There are plans to keep it up to date and add material, but since the admin staff all have day jobs, it's not happening overnight. <G>

The forum is where the action is these days, and we are most certainly alive and well.

I'm sure Boston or someone will reinforce this, or correct it, but the benefits of membership are:

1. Access to some areas of the forum that can't be seen by non members. Associates can see some of those areas, but most are reserved for members.
2. Access to member profiles and ability to edit posts.

There are a good number of unofficial "benefits" as well, such as the knowledge that you are participating in something real, working toward liberty and a lot of enjoyment while you are at it.

Once you actually move to Wyoming, there are a lot more such benefits, of course. :)

I hope you'll read over the forum and get to know us. Participate, and let us get to know you too! And the next time you come to Wyoming, let us know you're coming and you'll no doubt be invited to meet as many of us as possible, or as many as you can stand... whichever comes first.  >:D

Thanks for the replies! I am not worried about the $25, that is nothing. I just wanted to try to get a little more of a feel for what is going on. I'll join up before the end of the week!

The 25 FRNs don't just get your foot in the door and get you access to additional boards. They are not just a way to help defray some of the costs of running the organization. They are also a committment that you are literally putting your money where your mouth is. The signed SofI is also a committment to, among other things, be in the state of Wyoming within 7 years (I think that is the number, I'm sure Boston will correct me if I'm wrong.). While no one will come hunt you down and break your kneecaps or give you noogies or anything if you don't move, it is not something to be taken lightly or on a whim.
