I'm new to the forums, I'll introduce myself
« on: November 25, 2007, 12:36:04 PM »
Hello all, I first heard of this movement about 2 years ago, and decided a year ago that I will move to WY when I can.  I'm currently going to school in Minnesota.  Minnesota likes to view itself as moderate (hell, a third of us managed to get Ventura elected as Governor, and our legislature hated us for electing him, and hated him for having views contrary to theirs) but it's fairly big-government oriented.  And, if Al Franken gets elected as a US Senator for MN, I'll be that much happier to leave.  I first got interested in this movement through Boston's books, which happen to be lying right next to my computer right now - I'm writing a paper about gun-control for my Medical Sociology class (yes, really) because the textbooks briefly mentions guns, how bad they are, how they should be banned, etc, in a MEDICAL SOCIOLOGY textbook! So, yes, I am studying Sociology and Economics.  And, yes, studying sociology is extremely difficult with libertarian views, but mostly because of the professors.  They all have the view that "Sociology" means "basis for social change to make certain groups more equal by instituting much higher progressive taxes and larger government handouts and much more federal control in general" when I first thought that it meant, quite literally, "the study of society".  Hah, silly me, right?  I actually entered the program quite liberal and socialist (I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm honest), and studying sociology, economics, and political science actually triggered a shift towards libertarianism.  Who woulda thought?  Anyway, I'm eager to finish my indoctrination - I mean, education - here, so I can move out to Wyoming when I'm done.

Welcome!! But why wait? There is indoctrination - er education - available right here in Wyoming! Talk to DTOM about the University of Wyoming. He transfered there from Colorado.

What do you plan to do with your degree? Most jobs that call for such credentials are socialistic in the extreme, so I'm curious. I'm a retired RN who taught nursing at a community college, so I know the drill. :)
It's not that people are dumber, it's that stupidity used to be more painful.

Welcome to the forum JSmith!
I'm glad to hear you're beginning to see the light.

My daughters both majored in Socialism, I mean, Sociology, but the latter was heavily doped with the former.

Check out all our topics. There's a whole lot here.

Oh, WOW, it's been a while since I even logged onto here.  About 2 months... Sorry about that, ladies and gentlemen, although I doubt anyone really noticed.  I've been very busy with finals, starting new classes, trying to deal with my socialist teachers, and being a local supporter and organizer for Dr. Paul's candidacy- and enduring endless criticism and name-calling by those who hate him and, by extension, freedom (ha!).

Actually, it's fairly easy to make them admit that they don't really like freedom, that they'd rather see "fringe" folks be squashed rather than live the way we see fit.  But, they don't actually realize that they just agreed to it, and even when they do, they don't view it as a bad policy.  Kinda scary/sad.  Oh, well.

C'est la vie, non?
