Greetings from Kalifornia (don't all shoot at once!!)
« on: December 16, 2007, 05:36:23 PM »
Hi, folks. Been lurking for a while and thought I'd finally introduce myself.

First off, I just want to say how elated I am to have found FSW. I stumbled across it during an unrelated internet search a few months ago (ironically, right after Independence Day), and I've been reading this forum since. I've always been an independent-minded free spirit, which I suppose is the definition of "libertarian". According to the homework I've done, Wyoming looks to be the freest place left in the USA, if not the world. I've never been there, but I've visited Montana twice and absolutely loved it. Amazing scenery and friendly, down-to-earth people for the most part. If Wyoming is anything close to that, I think I'll fit in OK.

I moved to San Diego from my native Virginia about 7 years ago, thinking "How bad can California REALLY be?" Well, my overall feelings are essentially :o ??? :'( ??? >:(. Needless to say, I've wanted to escape for nearly 2 years now. After taking a good hard look at the overall political landscape of this grand little American empire over that time, it seems to me that just about every other state is foaming at the mouth to nosedive into the Pacific along with Kalifornia. Wyoming sounds the least eager to do that, so that's where I've set my sights. Hopefully I can make it to the upcoming Jam, meet everyone here and move out in the next year or so. Months ago, I hung a small banner in my room with "Wyoming or Bust!" painted in big red letters to keep me focused in the meantime. ;D

My impression is that Wyoming may be the truest remaining fragment of the free country America was intended to be according to the spirit of the Articles of Confederation, with Montana somewhere in second place. Sad, ain't it? Anyway, I'm happy to be here and I look forward to the '08 Jam.

Welcome indeed! I have a few photos of Newcastle on my blog here: http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswblogs/mamaliberty/?p=9

Need to post more as soon as I get a new camera. Dropped the old one into a snow bank and it went FZZZZZT and died!

Plan to visit if you come this way. Any son of freedom is a son of mine. :)  I came here from California two years ago, and wouldn't go back for anything!  ~W~ ~W~ ~W~

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone. I appreciate 'em!

Wayne/Sylvia/ MamaLiberty:

Newcastle is high on my "small town" list, so I definitely want to check it out in person. When I do, I'll give you all a holler. Just be sure to leave on some high-octane java and I'm there! ;D

I'm used to a more or less urban/suburban environment, so I'm thinking Casper is probably where we'll end up. But ya never know....there are so many other places to explore. Cheyenne is likely out of the question, though; I grew up right outside Washington, DC and don't care to live near centers of institutionalized crime government.

The neat thing about Newcastle is that it is definitely a small town, with lots of room for everyone, but it's not all that far to several cities of various sizes. Rapid City in South Dakota has about anything a person could want, I think, including really high end medical care. Spearfish isn't bad either, and Gillette will improve with time, I'm sure. <G>

Please do check it out... Coffee is always available at Mama's, and often good stuff hot from the oven. :)

Hehe, Mama, you sound like my Mama, at least until I started cooking :)  Still, there's nothing like Mama's cooking  ;)

I'll take you up on that offer whenever I make it up there.  If I find out about when and where the Jam is, I'll so my best to make it this year.  Been wanting to for sometime now.

Just let me know when you're coming and I'll start cooking. :)

I love nothing better than to have my FSW neighbors and friends around my table.

FutureNow,
Welcome to the Forum.  Glad you found us.
When you get to Wyoming you should take up MamaLiberty's invite for sure.
I have been at her table, eaten her bread fresh from the oven, and drank
her coffee too.  I can vouch for her.

Hello my name is Serf and I live in Kalifornia.
My life hasn't been the the same since I read Bostons Gun Bible.
I think about not being a serf ALL the time.
I've made commitments in Kalifornia that I feel I must keep.
The wind calls to me, Wyoming, Wyoming.
Longing to breath free.

If you don't mind a little advice from an old mama, I'd suggest you think hard about a few things.

#1. Think and act free as much as possible, even if you can't be right away. Choose a "name" that reflects that and stop thinking about yourself as a "serf." Our thoughts and words create our reality. Think and act free, and you'll grow that way.

#2. If someone held a gun to your head and made you swear by all you held holy to do something you knew was wrong, would you be bound by that oath? Not saying that's your situation, of course, but something to think about.

Work on #1, and you might find that at least some of those commitments show in a different light.

In any case, welcome and God bless you. Hope you can come home to Free Wyoming soon.

Thanks for the reality check, Mama Liberty.
I need to think on some things I guess.

You are so welcome!

Most of us have been through at least some part of the dilemmas of living in a place that saps our spirits and freedom, having commitments and obligations that seem to prevent us from doing what is good and right for our own lives, and most of us have had to make hard choices, abandon things and people we love, and face uncertainty or even hard times in order to make the move toward liberty and Wyoming (or wherever).

Not everyone can come to Wyoming, of course, but everyone can improve their own situation at least some, and live with greater personal freedom if they are just willing to make the effort to throw off the chains of dependence and take charge of their own life.

It might not be nearly as much fun as living in Wyoming, but you can become a sovereign individual right there. It's all a matter of your mind, will and determination. Let's talk about it. I'm sure many others here will be glad to help as well.

Welcome!
