Hi all,
After reading about the East Coast meetup, Sally and I started tossing around the idea of a meetup in our area (Tucson). We're not sure how many of you are in this neck of the woods or would be willing to travel. We're thinking either a one-day thing just to get together, maybe spend part of the day at the range, and then have lunch and/or dinner, and chew the fat about ideas, philosophy, predictions for the Obamanation, plans, etc., whatever comes up. Or... make it two days with one devoted to going to the range.
First question, is anyone interested at all? I know of no other FSW-interested people in Tucson, and only one other couple in Phoenix. If somebody wanted to travel, one solid day of driving would cover all of Arizona south of the canyon, San Diego or extreme southern Cali, Vegas, most of New Mexico, and El Paso. A loooong day's drive might expand that to Bakersfield, or up the Cali coast past LA, the "Arizona strip" north of the canyon and extreme southern Utah, southern Colorado (the Springs is about 11 hours by car, (weather permitting - the Raton Pass tends to get closed at the drop of a hat), and into the Midland/Odessa area.
From what I've seen on the board, even the most optimistic range doesn't include too many FSWers.
Any others in Tucson/Phoenix that we're not aware of who might be interested? For those further out, what kinds of activities would make it worth a day's drive? We're thinking the 13th/14th of December to make it a Bill of Rights day celebration/memorial service. One problem for those travelling is that we are "in season" for the snowbirds, and so motels are pricier, and RV slots harder to find, than they would be in the summer when nobody wants to be here at all.
