Good gracious!
« on: May 04, 2009, 09:37:08 PM »
I've often bitched about the influx of "feriners" moving in here and generally effing up the state. I watched it happen to Jackson, then Dubois and now Lander, Pinedale and Sheridan. Seems to be expanding exponentially. Makes me want to cry sometimes. Or scream and shake my fist at the heavens. I've also often said that new folks moving in is ok as long as they're the "right sort." I guess I finally found out where the right sort hangs out.

Howdy.

Welcome! I'm not in WY yet but I plan on becomming an immigrant to Sublette county soon. Maybe I'll scare all the other "feriners" out of Pinedale! >:D

We are glad enough of WY is still hospitable to the "right sort" ;D
Good to be in a place where you can look people in the eye, see the front of their hand when waved at, and who's hand isn't out for gov. to fill. Wish more of us could come and turn the tide. I only want to eff up the socialists, but then I'm intolerant. Thanks for the welcome.

:D Don't be so hard on yourself, being tolerant doesn't mean you have to tolerate everyone and everything. ;)

I'm not being hard, just saying. Look at the signature line below my post, I agree, for once, with Aristotle. Reminds me of another saying that I don't have the source for: "If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything" which seems like the US population as a whole, or at least 97% as a great friend keeps reminding me.

Depends entirely on what you are "tolerating."

I'm completely tolerant of whatever anyone else wants to do with their own life and property. None of my business. I am completely intolerant of anyone who wants to impose their ideas or actions on my life or property. Then I avoid them or, if necessary, defend myself.

I've recently added something to the non-aggression principle. It wasn't missing, exactly, just not stated there.

Do not initiate force against others, and do not tolerate the initiation of force against yourself.

Howdy, Dark Side!
I live in Lander.
When I first started coming here with the Univ. of Missouri Geology Field Camp in '99, this was a quiet, little, laid-back Western town. There were cattle drives down Sinks Canyon and not too many years before, right down Main Street. Cowboys would ride in, tie-up, and walk into town. There was still one bar with a peg-board to hang your guns on. People gave their word and meant it.
Now? There is only one place in town to get a 'cowboy' hat, and that's a sporting goods store (pretty good one too). There is no place in town, now, to get a good pair of cowboy boots. We had a boot repair shop until a few months ago - the brother of the owner used to make custom, hand-made boots. I saved for three years to be able to have a pair made - he went out of business just before I had enough saved. BUMMER!
Yeah, this town has changed in the ten years I've been here. There are a lot of Hippie-wanna-be's here now, and not for the best. There is/was a very strong Obamatron contingent here as well. Many of the have become quite dis-illusioned since the Usurper almost took the oath of office.
I know quite a few who wish they could recall their vote. They claim, now, that they did not get what they voted for. Tried to tell them then! Oh, Well!
I've been told (by my close friends) that I'm the sort that gives That Sort a bad name! I carry concealed when I'm not carrying open - which I do more and more each day.
Dark Side, Not sure where you're located, but when you're in Lander, let me know - always happy to have a coffee with "One of Those!"
Clean them,
Load them,
Keep them near at hand.
Remember Capt. Parker.

\\\"Les hommes sages n\\\'ont pas besoin conseil. Idiots ne le prendront pas.\\\"

;D Fine business, Big Ugly. I'm in Sheridan now, but I'm real familiar with that country. I graduated from Wind River HS and my sister still teaches there. My folks have places near Kinnear, so I get down there once in awhile. Business often takes me on a loop through Casper and Rawlins to Rock Springs, and lots of times I'll return over South Pass for a short stop to visit my folks. So Lander ain't that out of the way. Growing up I spent a lot of time in Lander and in the mountains above Sinks Canyon. Through high school I mostly seemed to date Lander girls, so I put on a fair number of miles back and forth across the res through Ethete. It was a lot different then that when you made it out in 99. It's a shame to hear that it's gone that much further downhill. Maybe we can change that, eh?

Yeah, figured you would. LOL I want to talk to some of the other ZAP folks and see if we can't incorporate that into the base statement we all use. So often people reading that for the first time get the idea that we are some kind of pacifist. The addition would short circuit that problem.

Do not initiate force against others, and do not tolerate the initiation of force against yourself.

that is precisely why the 'don't tread on me' flag is so awesome!
