The Traffic Jams Start Early Though Not What You Think...
« on: May 28, 2010, 06:08:08 AM »
Small herd of antelope as I was starting the truck this morning...yesterday's drive had thirty-five antelope, twenty mule deer and one moose though I'd much rather NOT see any of them on the road... :o

The antelope are starting to fawn...I'll try and get a shot of those adorable young'uns!

Great pics, Manumit.  Got bumper? :D

There *is* a reason for those super heavy duty front bumpers observed on trucks out west...  They are starting to show up more and more in my neck of the woods...  Just a 150#doe can do incredible damage (many thousands) to a stock bumpered truck if you've got much of a head of steam up.  Not sure anything will 'deflect' a moose or elk. :o

These "ranch" bumpers ARE standard fare AND HIGHLY recommended...given the volume of wildlife and the fact that most roads divide the daily food/sleep to water travel lanes, it is not IF you'll hit something, but WHEN!

Those are the ones!  Looks like a Ranch Hand.  Spotting hitch and all.  You're right, if you live in a wildlife populated area, it's just a matter of time.  Spending ~$1000 on a bumper like this (new) is cheap insurance considering the damage potential and the possibility of being stranded well away from help.  At $250 for that bumper, it's a no brainer!  If that bumper fit my old truck (sadly it doesn't), I'd be calling you to go get it and sending you $$!

They can be a pain when working in the engine compartment, but it's liveable.

Might be a bit much for my Hyundai?

:D  Ummmm, yeah.  Might cause it to tip over front first! Ha, ha.  What a picture. ;D

Maybe the only way that a ranch bumper would work with a Hyundai is with photoshop... ;)

Photoshop?  Good idea, then I wouldn't have to take the plow blade off.

All...the photo was just poached by me following a "ranch-bumper" ixquick picture search.  SORRY...but given the "free-range" wildstock demand pressure, supply is readily available out here.  I'll check some used parts spots and get ya'll a current going rate.

Thanks, Manumit.  Mucho appreciated.  Reputable places to call would be the ticket.  Used fits this cowpokes budget. ;)

This looks great!  I live in the Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex.  The traffic from hell, and the morons who drive here,  is one of the major reasons I want out of here.
