Any Scoutmasters and Freemasons here?
« on: March 03, 2008, 12:04:39 AM »
Not that there's any particular reason I'm asking about those together.

Among some of the items I've been researching in Wyoming are the two above.  I love being involved in the community, and wherever I opt to move in WY, I'm looking for a number of things but these two in particular I haven't had luck finding are Masonic Lodges and Boy Scout Troops.  I've found the state's Masonic homepage, but either the page is down, the link isn't current, or my server is just not working well tonight.  I don't doubt there's lodges in Wyoming, but are there a good amount spread throughout the state? anyone here a Mason?  And just as well I'm trying to find local Scouting districts and troops.  I don't have any kids of mine yet, but I've been with Scouting since I was eleven and as an adult--volunteering for those kids is an incredibly rewarding experience and I am very much excited about all the possibilities that a state like WY has to offer for outdoors experiences.  Heck, given comfort with firearms in this state, there must be plenty of youth who are interested in learning how to shoot.  And while I'm searching, it never hurts to meet other Scouters.

Thanks, and I hope I'm not flooding this forum with too many simple questions.

Brutus, we can handle all the simple questions... and someone will holler if they get too complicated. LOL

I was involved in Scouting for a very long time when my sons were young... long ago, but I'd love to get involved again. Scouting, 4H, FFA and other youth organizations are very popular here and usually well done, but they can always use volunteers just as anywhere else. I'm sure you'd be very welcome and put to work right away if you show your face. <G>

As for the other, don't have a clue. Not my cup of tea.

Brutus, I was in demolay and had elders in the masons, as well as many other "frats". I did not continue in any of them , however. The lodges are out there but last time I talked with members they were afraid that they were dying as the younger people were not joining. Maybe just in the town I was in ?

Scouting on the other hand is alive and well. In my experience it has become more of an off shoot of local churches, especially LDS, (Morman). I was never a scout but had freinds who were. It's always good to have those with skills passing on thier knowledge to the kids. Yes wyoming sets a great stage for all things scouting.

The Crook County library carries the Scottish Rite Foundation of Wyoming magazine, and here is the contact info I pulled from the inside front cover:
bill@iamafreemason.org
1820 Capitol Ave
Cheyenne, WY  82001
http://www.wy-srmason.org/
http://www.wy-scottishritemasons.org/

There are some links on those sites that may help you get more information about specific areas.

Sundance has a Mason lodge (is that the right word?).

There is at least one Freemason here, though I am not in Wyoming.

Freemasons are innocent until they get well up into double digit degrees, which few do.

I saw a sign at the "entrance" to Gillette yesterday with a Mason's sign (along with all the other social clubs and such). Are Freemasons the same as Masons? Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along.

They invite you, there's a secret initiation, you learn a secret handshake, and voila' you're a Mason.(Thats the short version) If you're a Christian, or a Catholic(last time I checked with a Catholic friend) it is frowned upon, to put it mildly.

The Christians look down on the Masons, or the Masons look down on the Christians?

Some Christians look down on Masons due to the occult overtones of certain aspects of the organization.
So much for "judge not, lest ye be judged..."
Doesn't mean I endorse Freemasonry, but I really don't have a personal reason to believe that they are the masters of the new world order, like some folks have tried to put forth.
I wouldn't have time for it myself, even if I wanted to join another organization, but kudos to anyone that does.

Go then; there are other worlds than these.

As usual, the most misquoted scripture being used again. Christians don't "look down" on anyone if they are truly Christians, but have compassion on those who, like themselves, are prone to sin, and having compassion try to WARN people of evil wherever it is, from the president, king, dogcatcher  on down. I'm sorry if some so called Christians have a superior attitude, that is something that hopefully they are dealing with. I merely noted what is the Christian, and Catholic position on secret societies. Judgement is God's job, fruit checking is a Christians. YOU all do it, when you look at a person, listen to their speech, and note their actions. It is not wrong, and your self righteous quote of "judge not lest ye be judged" forgets the second part of the verse as well as the context and the rest of scripture. Selective citing is poor scholarship.
Example:
Rom 2:13  Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.2  We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who do such things.3  Do you suppose, O man--you who judge those who do such things and yet do them yourself--that you will escape the judgment of God?
Hypocritical judgement is wrong, that was not done, was it?

All of this contention could have been prevented if Moses had just been sent down the mountain with a box of printed bibles, 1400 years before Gutenberg, instead of stone tablets.
